A Trip To My Village

Food as they say is the heart of human beings. I have a passion for traveling home anytime during the festive period just because of the kind of food my mum always cooks for me and my family.

My children, husband, and I traveled to the village to meet my mum two years ago and I was so happy going home. My husband does say "the reason he travels home is to eat my mum's food as well as his mum's. The way the villagers always entertain someone who they have seen for so long is so different from those staying around them.

My mum and my husband's mum would cook and would make the food so palatable for us. They would prepare it just as if we had given them money to prepare the food.

The meat and the fish would look just as if they wanted to empty the whole pot for us. The food they prepare in the village is always delicious and natural. They look exceptional. I have eaten varieties of food but the food in the village tastes delicious.

My husband would always say he wants to be going home just because of the food aspect of life. I love my mum's cooking. This is what she has taught me and I can never forget her tactics for preparing it.

My husband always calls my mum upfront to notify her about our coming and what she should cook for us when we get home. I on the other hand would call my mother-in-law to prepare our normal cassava flakes known as (garri). It's been a nice trip especially when it comes to the aspect of food. We always eat to our satisfaction. My husband loves one kind of soup which my mum always prepares for him. It is called draw soup (Ogbono soup). To my husband, anytime he eats this soup with cassava flakes (garri), he always feels great, and to be sincere, there is no day he would not take it.

He loves swallowing garri to the core and it has been part of him right from childhood according to him.

To me, I cannot do without starch. Don't get me twisted. It's the same starch we use to make our clothes look perfect but the raw one. This is my native kind of food. There is a way it is prepared to make it look unique. I made my children fall in love with it as well as my husband. It's a nice meal and I bet you when you take it with pepper soup you would find it so loving.

Presently my mum has been going through a tough time and has been struck with a sickness that seems dangerous. Cancer is not a joking sickness and most especially when it comes to the aspect of the breast. My mum has been suffering and has been trying to manage it but the pain according to him has been a tough one and one which no one would bear.

Now, my family, and most especially my children, want to go to the village to meet their two Grandmas, my mum, and my mother-in-law. It won't be possible to take them home, instead, I would be going alone to see my sick mum. For now, no one knows if she is going to recover but we are just hoping for God's intervention.

The delight of our mother’s cooking is a comfort that carries us through life. It fabulous that your husband and children love her delicacies, too. It’s incredibly sad that your mom has cancer. We wish her a speedy recovery, and pray that you have the strength to deal with her condition. Lovely writing!

Mothers are precious beings created for us. Reading this made me miss my mother, who was no longer with us.
