Hardworking can always take you from the realm of poverty to the greatest level only if you choose to elevate.
Jonathan came from a poor family and to him, he needed to do everything possible to meet up his target of becoming who he really wanted to become. Taking his ambition to the next level has been his aim and target.
Jonathan grew up to be a handsome young guy but has a friend who has the same aim with him. Samuel never wanted to stop taking himself to become the best in his studies.
They have been trying to make up the best result in their quest for education. Jonathan and Samuel always go to the farm to make some money just to take care of their school as their parents were not able to afford their school fees.
One fateful day, when they got to the form, Samuel had to climb the palm tree just to cut down the palm fruits but mistakenly stepped on the wrong path which made him fall. He broke his alms and was taken to the native doctor who was the joints specialist. The specialist demanded for just a small amount of money which they could not afford. Jonathan needs a rich home to bring some money from his savings just for his friend to survive.
Samuel was taken care of and the native doctor dug the ground and inserted Samuel's arm deep inside the ground. He buried the hand in the earth and made it so tight. After some hours, the doctor pulled out the hand with force. This made the arm become straight again. Samuel was treated and was also given some herbs to take.
A month later, Jonathan's dad managed to buy him a mathematics textbook. This made him so excited and was happy to guard it to the last level. The following day, Samuel came to Jonathan's house just to visit him and saw the textbook. He took it and mistakenly dragged a page but to his surprise got tore. Samuel, who called himself Jonathan's best friend did not say a word to his friend instead hid it from him.
It was time to write a test in the class and the teacher had told them to read a particular page. He was so excited but when he got home, the page was nowhere to be found. He has no idea what might have happened to his textbook. Does this come like this or someone tore it on purpose. This was to Hong within him.
After the text, Samuel came to him apologizing for the mistake he had made. He felt what was going on? After a lot of silence, he opened up to his friend that he was the one who tore his textbook by mistake. As a good friend he did not say much to him.
It's a random atmosphere where everywhere seems clouded and unique. Samuel was so amazed that his parents bought him clothes just to appraise his hand work as his result was wonderful. Despite the fact that there was nothing, Samuel still brought home glory, his parents were so happy for his result.
He wants to guard the shirt to all levels and to keep it safe at all costs. He went to play football and mistakenly, Jonathan dragged the shirt which made the shirt torn. This pained Samuel but could not utter a word since it got torn by his friend. Samuel took the cloth home without his parent's knowledge. He hides it in a place well known to him.
It's been four years now, and Samuel and Jonathan happened to gather a lot of money. They are done with secondary school and now they both went to the same university and are studying the same course.
The best of friends started showing their value since they have both been together against all odds. While in school, they don't want to come back home to make money from their parents, instead start doing another kind of job just to sustain themselves. The two friends bought a clipper and started cutting hair. They started from the front of their hostel and we're making a living from haircuts.
When it was a holiday, they could not go back home but decided to remain in school just to continue the job. This was not affecting their studies as they can never joke with their studies.
After five years, they were done with school and to the surprise of their parents, they both came out at first-class levels. This got their parents so excited. Now, it was time for convocation where all their mates had to come together with their parents. A day of happiness for the two guys. In the history of their course, no one has ever come out at first-class level but the two broke the record.
It was during the convocation their lives changed totally from hustling and managing to big boys in town.
Five companies came for them and they had the choice of selecting from any one of the companies. They both agreed to work in the same company and they took the parcels sent to them Samuel immediately tore his own and saw the name of the company he is to work with as well as the position he would be given if accepted. He also saw the amount he would be paid per month. Inside the parcel, he would be sent to the United States to learn more about the company and would be given a house in one of the richest estates in the world.
Jonathan brought out his parcel and immediately and without wasting time unwrapped the string used to tie it. He asked his friend :
Should I just tear it or should I leave it and assume that what you have in your parcel is also the same as mine?
Samuel responded that:
You have no choice other than to tear the parcel to see what is inside of it.
He tore it and discovered that inside his own, he would be going to England to learn extra about the way the company works. He was given a check of $500,000 just to start with. They were both very excited. Jonathan shared the money equally.
When they got to their hometown, Samuel went inside and saw the cloth which his friend, Jonathan tore. He brought it out and they both laughed over it.
The one time poor families become great just because of determination.
@abigail04, There is no doubt that something big can be done in life only by hard work. Jonathan and Samuel's friendship was good, but the sequence of events kept changing too fast which affected the pace of the story. I still like the story.

This is a story of friendship, loyalty and striving. Each of the boys makes a mistake. Each of the boys forgives the mistake. They continue to strive, and to share. In the end both rejoice for the success of a friend.

I was appalled when I read how the native doctor treated the broken arm. I didn't know it was possible. What a nice "from rugs to riches" story.
