Family Forest Fun on Bank Holiday Monday
We had a bank holiday here in Ireland today, so with both my wife and I both off work, we figured we should do something nice with the kids. We decided to go to a nearby forest for a walk with our Springer Spaniel puppy Coco.
She needs fresh air, the kids need fresh air, we all need fresh air. So, we dressed up warn, got Coco ready and drove the short distance to the local forest.
What's not to like about a forest? Unspoilt. Open. Expansive. Peaceful. Coco was loving all of the smells and sounds of the forest and the boys were enjoying investigating and searching the forests many nooks and crannies for mysteries and treasures.
Mushroom Kingdom
The boys thought they were inside a game of Mario, with all the mushrooms they were seeing everywhere 🍄🍄🍄
They were strictly warned that they were for seeing and not touching for obvious reasons.
It's amazing all of the places where the mushrooms seek refuge. This upturned tree, which lost out in a battle with a wild Atlantic gale was home to hundreds of them.
They seem to love the moss at the bottom of trees as well. I found loads of a little clusters of them here, there and everywhere. They seem to love the moist conditions in the undergrowth of the forest.
Boys and their dog
The boys love Coco to bits and she loves them just as much. She has made absolute shit of the house since we got her, probably €3000 of damage at least, but if that's the price you have to pay for a gorgeous dog who loves the family and fits right in, so be it. Here she is goosing around the forest with them today.
I hope wherever you are, you had as good Monday as we had here in Ireland. To top it off, some of our best friends called around this afternoon and their 3 boys and our 3 boys had a great afternoon playing out in the garden in the surprising October sun.
These photos were all taken by me on my Samsung smartphone
Lovely photos! I'm jealous that you have such a beautiful forest nearby. 😅
Ha ha, yes we are very lucky where we are here, with nature all around us and still close to a good sized city 👌
All that green sure makes me miss Ireland and the abundance of mushrooms as well. xxx
Ya, that's the one good thing about all the rain!! It's bucketing down here in Galway at the minute..
As for the mushrooms, there's tonnes of them around this year, more than I can ever remember.. maybe it's because it's unseasonably mild for late October..
