I Just Got My Crypto.com Card and Tested It Out, Another Kick In The Balls To The Banks From My Side

avatar

It's probably three weeks since I finally become eligible to order my plastic Crypto.com VISA card. I had the virtual one already working, but I needed a physical one as well, for the physical world :D. Three weeks later and I found it in my mailbox, shipped from the UK.

Indeed a pleasant surprise tbh. I am a crypto fanatic and have tried to circumvent banks by all means. Thus far Revolut and Binance have played an important role for that matter. I have been using the Binance card almost on a daily basis for almost a year now, I guess...

I don't remember the exact date I received it. I had overall a pleasant experience, but a failed transaction that was still not refunded had made the experience not so perfect. Hence it feels good to know I got options. As soon as I put my hands on the crypto.com VISA card, I have activated it and transferred some USDC to it to see how it works.

First I took it to a bank ATM to activate it and withdrew a few bucks as well to test the ATM withdrawals and than I went to a supermarket and bought myself something to eat. Both the withdrawing process and the contactless payment worked flawlessly. I will have to test it for online shopping as well, but some other day.

I don't know if my low IQ was to be blamed, or the process to actually top up this card is a bit over the hand in comparison with what Binance has... I've done the job though and as stated above, works fine. I also have 1% cashback on my shopping using it. There's one odd thing that I don't get yet about it.

As soon as I have topped it up, I got an in app message saying that 6 CRO have been staked for me... I guess the guys from crypto.com read my post on Leofinance today about staking and decided to do that for me :D. It's about 1.4 euros that are staying in a so called "exchange account"... I guess it's a fee for using the card, something like some XRP wallets have, I don't know exactly...

All I know is that I'm more and more independent from the banking system and I'm happy about. If you plan on ordering yourself such a card as well, and start using crypto.com, feel free to use my refferal so I can earn some extra crypto... Funny how much has the crypto environment changed since I joined in. Wonder how this world will look like in five years from now.

Thanks for attention,
Adrian

Congrats for getting the card!

Your card holder (the one from the photo) is square? Mine is hexagonal. :)

They have a different app for the exchange. You have to create a separate account for that. I don't know how you got funds in there without using it... But who knows what kind of promos they have now? Might be completely different from when I joined.

Mine is hexagonal as well. The envelope was square. I don't know how I've done it, but it seems I have an exchange account and yes, in order to top up my card I have to send funds from the exchange account to the crypto wallet.

Have you KYC'ed? Because I can top up using my other card (the one from the bank). Or you want to top up with crypto? I haven't tried that yet, lol, but I will.

Unfortunately, these cards are still not available in certain countries... I will be getting one as soon as I can! They are still tied to conventional banking but it's a step in the right direction.

Probably yes. I don't know how much I will use it, but it's good to have alternatives.

I still don't quite get how this card works.

I buy USDC with Fiat and put it in my crypto.com account
Then when I use the card it changes that USDC back into Fiat so I can use it like a normal credit card.

Is that it?

You can transfer from your normal card also so you get the cashback. I always transfer my food money on it and use it for the rest of the month for a nice £30 cahsback per month on average. Also, regarding the staking, i think you need to check, it was around 240$ when i did it to get staked so you receive 2% instead of 1%.
They got the card, and the exchange, think like hive account for hive and hive-engine for hive pegged.

I don't know much about staking, but I sure know they have staked 6 CRO for myself without asking.

maybe is different for every country, for mine they just stack them on the card, i need to move them manually to exchange to stake them.

Big changes are coming and crypto
is responsible for all of that.
The Banks will embrace crypto and act they care
but it will be the same ol trick.

I have been using a similar card for some time - crypterium. I am generally satisfied with the service, although the commissions are astronomical. When the crypterium takes few percent to charge the card, it is the turn for various banking providers with their commissions. In my case, the worst fee is to withdraw money, since I also pay a fixed fee for that. Unfortunately, it has recently become necessary for me to submit my Tax ID, so my 'dear country' will tax me for this one day ...
