AI is already all around us

ai is already all around us.jpg

I had a talk with a friend about artificial intelligence and he was lamenting that in a few years many things would be taken over by artificial intelligence... I believe that my friend is actually quite wrong. Why? Because I think that AI is already all around us and we often don't really know it.

Social media

Some time ago, I watched the move „social dilemma“ on Netflix. What I remember best is that the algorithms that are used by these social media companies already have self learning processes inbuilt. The company simply has to define what their objectives are (time on the platform, buying decisions, visits,...) and the algorithm adapts itself to reach its goals, learning from the multitude of data that are collected by the platform itself.

A person in this movie said that hardly any human understands what is actually happening with these algorithms. For example, the algorithm realized that if people have extreme opinions, the best thing to keep them on the platform is to present them things that confirm their opinions.... Also it was seen that people with extreme views were prone to believe much quicker in other extreme things.

If somebody says that all this is not at least partially responsible for the growing polarization in the world... well then I don't know what to answer. I believe this is a good example how AI manages to impact our lives without us realizing it.

AI on Hive

We probably all checked out ChatGPT and were amazed by the quality of the answers given by the AI. It's not really surprising that some people started to use this content for their posts and others let the AI generate a whole post for them. Will AI invade Hive? Well I wouldn't see that in a positive light. I'm on hive mainly because of the people. If the majority of the content and interaction was generated by AI, well then I wouldn't want to linger I believe.

Gaming bots

I don't really know whether the different bot provider for Splinterlands are using AI to improve their battling. Honestly, I don't know how they could be so strong without self learning mechanisms. The problem is that nowadays you lose more often playing manually than if you let a bot play your deck. Is it still a game if computers play for you? Probably we will all end up letting bots play with our decks and the difference will be made through the quality of the implemented learning mechanism and who owns the best cards. We might end up racing to buy the best cards that were communicated to us by the bot provider.

The AI makes the best results with exactly this deck....

I think that AI is already everywhere around us and it will become just more present in the long run. I think it's not worth fighting it because like many things before this is a disruptive technology that will change many sectors and of course also hive.

Do we need to fight it on Hive? Do we need to embrace it? And if yes, how do we keep this ecosystem peopled with humans in the first place?

AI is like any advancement of society. Like when I traded my typewriter for my first computer. It is only an instrument that we humans use.
Do you remember when there was no Internet? No GPS? No mobiles?
You were there and so was I.

Man I remember those times very well. I used my first cell phone in 2000 when I was 25 years old... Things have changed quite a lot :-)

I already discuss this:

I don't know what we can do about it. But we can use it as a tool for some better quality, which is after all the purpose.
Orthodox prohibitionism, like some Luddites, seems to me to be nonsense. But of course, if one is a doctor for everything in this world, as I have been noticing lately on Hive when I curate posts, one has to ground him.

I agree that prohibition will lead to nothing. The music industry is a good example how they have tried to stop progress and had to cave in finally. My question is rather will Hive become a playground for AI or will it remain used for content and interaction from humans?

It should be both, I think.
AI could be used for development of community bots (as example), and we as humans (I hope that we won't need some proof that we're humans...yet... 😁) continue to create content and interact.

I mean AI is around us already and it will take a more and more important place in our lives. I wonder whether in a couple of months or years we will still talk with real people online or not :-)

At least, I hope no terminator soon. That's the worst scenario for AI everywhere.

Man imagine somebody creates an AI with the mission to eliminate human kind...

I think AI content is a bone for contention because it isn't then content produced by the author. I guess that it is already being fought against on Hive if this would lead to downvoting.

I see AI becoming better and better over time to create content that can't be discerned from humanly created one. How will it feel when we don't know whether we interact with man or machine?

This will encourage people to create more unique and interesting content in order to stand out and get rewards. Similar to some of the cooking & drawing posts, you may need to provide a photo or some proof of how you made it etc.

I've seen the same posts without AI. You read it and think you've passed on the plastic words with the glass feed). I guess it just goes away the way it came...)

Humans are adaptable. We'll figure it out. I always believe that any technological advancement is just another tool to the advancement of humanity. !PIZZA

I agree with you about that. What I wonder is whether a place like hive will be able to survive such a thing?

I think it's going to be unavoidable and it will only get harder to distinguish content made by AI as it gets better. So I honestly don't know what to make of it and I don't use it.

I totally agree. There will be a time when we can't know whether we are interacting with man or machine and I wonder whether a platform like hive will be able to deal with that.

I think as time goes on, the side effect of AI will be more than the advantage

It's never good or healthy to be opposed to progress but I think it's also good to canalise it so that it rather helps us than dominates us :-)

I think human touch can't be replaced fully yet, but we will see. Hopefully there are still humans to interact on Hive someday. Hehe!
