Why you should buy your cards rather than rent them
For quite some time new players only had the option to rent powerful cards from the market and they have gotten used to it. However, we have not chaos legion that came out and there are a lot of affordable cards on the market.
In this video I try to make the point why I believe it's a perfect moment now to start to build your deck with your own cards.

The first one was the SPS. I used to rent around 3 to 4 cards to get into Bronze I, and I hardly broke even during those seasons. It was OK, because I wanted to get nice rewards and I was buying quest potions with credits at the time. For that reason, I think it didn't get so bad, after all. However, when SPS came into picture, I realized I was wasting too much DEC that could get me those sweet SPS. So, I began to gather them, instead of letting them go in rentals.
The second thing was that I tried to rent one card to see how it would work in the market. The income for that card was too small, and I needed that power to climb further on the leagues, anyway. That made me see how people rented cards, too: most of them rented it only for 1 day. Although, it got rented almost everyday, there was this big "what if", in case people didn't want to rent it for long periods of time. So, in order to prevent that, I would need a bigger card portfolio to spread it in the market to get a better income.
The last thing was that rentals began to get too big for themselves and card owners began canceling people rentals to get better prices and that made me furious! When people were complaining about this practice, I made a decision to finally looking around actively for buying deals in the market. I was already getting some cheap cards when I stumbled upon them, but now I was focusing in getting out of Bronze. Now, I'm very close to that goal. Although it was a slow process, I think it was worth the waiting. I have now three level 2 summoners and some nice cards that makes me win consistently in Bronze. I think my card collection is not good enough to rent it for a passive income, yet. But the closer I get to Silver, the surer I am that I made the right decision.
Thank you so much for this awesome video, and so sorry for this long comment!
Thanks for the awesome comment! I think that buying cards is probably the slower road to increase your rank and league but its in my opinion the more sustainable one. If you upgrade your deck little by little, you will realize that it's possible to climb in the ranking.
Thank you so much for the kind words, @achim03! Have some !PIZZA, please!
Thanks for the info. Today the summoner prices have reach the $4.00 target I set. I have started to build my lvl 2 summoners.

I also saw that and started to buy some of them. I think it's a nice opportunity to be able to upgrade them.
Good explanation on why the market is going down. I guess the rental market will probably still continue to drop down and I should probably buy some cards now that prices are down a bit.

In the mid-term I believe that it will be difficult to make a decent income with rentals. Maybe a part from legendary summoners that will always be in demand.
Yea I can definitely seeing epic and legendary summoners maintain value but I guess the rest will definitely dip even further as DEC price declines.

I'm not so sure now is exactly the time to be buying, but I will buy a few cards with an expectation that they will drop in price and I can acquire more as more packs are opened and released. If one is patient they can wait for all the bid wars to subside and prices to balance out a bit more before diving in.
Exactly, it's important to be patient and to little by little get the cards for cheap prices.
Thanks for sharing. I was thinking of waiting further for CL cards because like you said, there are still many packs that are yet to be released. In the meantime, I am renting different cards to try them out to see which ones I am comfortable playing with.
I believe that renting cards to test play them is a very good approach. Like that you can see whether they fit your game style first.
The owner mentality really helped me in Splinterlands.
Me too. Renting always comes with an overhead that is difficult to compensate with winnings.
Thanks for your sharing.
In the past few months, I focused on renting but now I switch to buying and levelling up my cards :)
I think that's a sound strategy to slowly pass from renting to buying and levelling the cards.
