What happens to Splinterlands if SPS loses value?

Since now the rewards that we earn in Splinterlands are SPS, I was wondering what would happen if the value of SPS dropped consequently? The whole ecosystem depends on big rewards for players. If these rewards collapse in value, what would be the consequences? Would the game survive? Would our investment still be worth something?

Of course my findings are all hypothetical and probably not really accurate. I would love to hear what you think however...

If they can get bots under control and not have them suck all the rewards away we should be ok.
What scares me is that with an $800 card collection(cost over $1200) I am in the top 6000 collection power holders in the game. Are there really only 10-20K real players of the 178,416 avg players per day.

38 new spell books sold per day.
Rift Watchers sells will burn 250,000,000(15,000,000/.06) of the Total Supply of 873,937,993.
That is 28% of all outstanding SPS.
Yes SPS might go down in price and your core players will stay around until land releases.

I am betting the price will go up after the airdrop only group cashes out. There also appears to be a percentage of HODL SPS owners.
Will you be buying Rift Watcher packs?

There are many very small players too, for whom a 1000 USD investment would be huge. But I agree that a large part of the userbase are bots.

I think that the amount of SPS burnt will be indexed to the value of SPS. So if value of SPS is low, a lot of tokens will be necessary to purchase Riftwatchers. I think it's a good control mechanisme to avoid that SPS goes down too much.

Will you be buying Rift Watcher packs?
I'm not sure yet. I won't participate in pre-sale because I first want to see what cards will be in the packs. Maybe I will just pick the cards I like best.

You mentioned SPS staking (on players) toward the end. Besides the governance itself, that would be a reason why SPS shouldn't drop in value, other than with the market as a whole. It'll practically be the next iteration for rewards and it'll limit rewards earned from playing the game to those who have staked SPS on them (their own or delegated to them).

I think the SL team has a pretty good game plan to keep the value of SPS up. Staking on players to earn rewards will be very important in this respect because without stake, you won't be able to earn much. It's pretty similar to curation on hive actually...

I think it will also rely on the Splinterlands team to add value to SPS and I am not sure that I like the changes that much. It makes me wonder if there is even a need for DEC pools now that things are being paid in SPS.

I think that we will kind of forget about DEC in the future. It will be just a credit token in a way that allows us to be active on markets and in the shop.

Thanks for sharing! I think SPS will drop in the coming month where the bots finally are able to sell them after unstaking, but it will probably reach an equilibrium somewhere.
