When Speed decides the battle
From my own experience I know that the aspect of Splinterlands cards that people pay least attention to is the speed value of each card. Especially in lower leagues it's mainly the attack, the life and the shield level that matters. The better you get however, the more important the speed ability will be. There are two reasons to it.
First speed defines the order of attack in the game. The faster your card is, the earlier it will be played in each round. With a fast team you can wipe out your adversary before he even plays!
Secondly speed also makes you card more difficult to be hit by range and melee attack. A very fast card becomes very difficult to hit.
Today, during my daily quest, I was opposed to my friend Zoltan (@cryptofiloz) and it was a very high level fight where he beat me mainly thanks to speed. Check out the video to see this epic battle ;-)

First of all my newb question. When I put a video on 3speak, then embed it in a ctptalk article the video always shows in my ctptalk profile, and then the article below it. I notice you only have your article show in your profile, how, what am I doing wrong? It almost feels like a tag issue.
Before @jonnycoin, who shared with me the importance of speed, I could not win a battle to save my life. The minute I factored in speed I started to win. Speed is a very important aspect of winning battles.
When you put a video on 3speak, it will create a post automatically that will be on hive and be visible on all the front-ends that you have put the tag for (ctp -> ctpalk, oneup -> 1up,...). If you put your tags correctly, no need to create another post.
Thanks buddy I felt it was a tag issue. So create the video with summary article in 3Speak, then with the use of proper tags, it will show up in the correct front ends. Thank you this clears up a lot of confusion I had 😄
hahaha So true!!! I have realized this like a month ago ONLY. When I realized it I was so like ehhh? But then, it makes more sense that way.
The speed aspect doesn't jump to the eyes from the beginning. It's only once we get some experience and we wonder why you are always hit first, that we start to understand it :-)
SO TRUE!!! 💯 You have pinpointed the actual scenario!
Hehehe... I have recognized the guy from the other team... :) Btw. you forgot to mention another important thing in that battle... The last guy in my deck was Spirit Miner and besides the swiftness, he also has the "blind" ability, which works perfectly with a very speed deck as it's literally adding more effect to the strategy... You have probably missed a couple of times because of BLIND and not just speed difference...
It was nice to win for the first time after dozens of lost battles... 😃
It's true blind reinforces the speed especially for defense against range. It's a good combo and also your legendary dragon card refills it's life on all its targets. That's pretty powerful with blast :-)
Awesome man! That was a close one, but even sweeter the victory! :)
Speed is king till you face a magic deck. Isn't that the reason why everyone plays Water splinters?
At novice and bronze level, a magic set of cards is very difficult to beat if you don't have magic reflect. At higher levels it looks quite different.
Speed also makes you card more difficult to be hit by range and melee attack - I didn't know that! No wonder Serpent of Eld is such a good tank for me. Thanks for sharing useful tips again!
The serpent of Eld is definitely a good tank if not attacked too much by magic. With speed 4 at basis level it's much faster than most cards. In addition it has the dodge ability that makes it even more difficult to hit.
Both of you played well, but I think Zoltan might've been in your head with this one. :) Without the speed difference, you probably would have won.
I showed him the power of Saw Supremacy!!!! YEAH! 🤣
You shouldn't have! It's top secret, lol! :D :D
Speed is so important, as attacking first is worth way more than a a Health or Attack point. The player who kills the first monster of the opponent usually snowballs into a victory (as he has more attacks/round); that's why Pyre is so strong as a Fire Summoner for newbies that just started on the game!
Thanks a lot for the curation! The fire splinter can be pretty powerful when it comes to speed with Pyre but also with cards like Goblin Shaman or Flame Imp you can get a level above in terms of speed.
Thank you it was a pleasure witnessing a game at that level. Yes speed is the most important factor, rather than the least. I did not pick up on that until Jon showed me mercy and shared that strategy with me.
I think that speed matters more the more a deck is evolved but even at bronze level it can make all the difference.
