Tring to find my creative side again

tring to find my creative side again.jpg

For a certain amount of time, I struggle to write posts on Hive. I used to write a post every second day and now I hardly manage to write two posts per week. I write some posts for my other projects but for my personal account, I really fail to come up with content that I feel is worth writing about.

Keeping focused

At the end of a day, I write down a check-list for the day to come. Like that, I write down what needs to be done. I have to include my professional, familial and my hive project related obligations in this list, which becomes often very long. When I look at his long list in the morning, I tend to start the day with the things that I can cross out fastest. Unfortunately, I always end up with undone tasks that need more brainpower, like creating a post. So I postpone them to the next day. The tasks that need more of my intellectual capacities are the ones that I end up not doing. I need to ask myself whether I'm getting old and lazy? Of course, I don't get any younger and maybe there is some additional laziness creeping in... but I need to find a solution.

Free space for brain intensive tasks

If I have a big tasklist that is composed of activities that require little energy and I manage to do most of them, there is this feeling of accomplishment. Unfortunately, it's an illusionary feeling because I'm just filling my day with tasks that require no creativity and no reflection. The solution is not to create more of these tasks but to reduce them, so that I free space for real intelectual work.

Games are not good for creativity

I realized that my decline in productivity was linked to me starting to play the Splinterforge game. I play it quite a lot but it's pretty repetitive. I need to make more or less the same lineups 20 times a day. I manage to earn some forge tokens like that but it requires a lot of time. Is this the activity that came to challenge my creativity?

Playing games in general doesn't seem to be challenging my brain. Well of course while playing Splinterlands my brain is needed but this has become a more and more depressive activity. When I play the game these days, I always have the feeling that I have become quite a bad player.... Or maybe the bots have simply become too strong.

Taking some hard decisions

When something doesn't end up in my life, I need to change things. I now have the feeling that I need to take make a drastic change so that I can find back my creativity and write more posts.

Under these circumstances, I have taken the decision to stop playing Splinterforge for the moment. Maybe I will play later on, but I need to stop for a while. I also decided to reduce the number of my active Splinterlands decks from 3 to 2. Playing three accounts is simply too much work and I seem not to enjoy it so much these days (probably because I lose too often).

Playing too many games is reducing my productivity

In general, I spend too much time in front of the computer. Often clicking aimlessly around. I can spend hours sending tokens or nft's from one account to another just for feeling to do something useful. In the end, I'm just wasting time. I believe I need to get off the computer on a regular basis so that I can become more productive.

I hope that these changes will reduce the number of my daily „brainless“ tasks and will free some time for creative stuff... I want to produce more posts with quality content.

How do you deal with situations where you have the feeling that you can't concentrate enough to create posts?

This kind of situation occurs when gaming gets too much time consuming and keeps us busy for hours. The brain gets tired and loses creative side. This situation leads to procrastination, as we often call it, you might have seen a meme about it.

Have a great day, I also need to focus on writing more content.

Your comment is totally on point. Gaming tires quite a lot and it can become quite frustrating. There is often no energy left to create a post :-)

It is difficult to concentrate on the most productive but it is necessary to do so. You have to evaluate what interests you the most or what makes you happiest and then continue on that path.
You always have to have an open mind to new possibilities and thus be able to move forward.

You are right to say that in the end it matters what you do and it should be the things that make you happiest. I agree with that.

When I was younger, I must admit, I played games intensively and, believe it or not, I came to the same conclusion. I just don't play anymore (well, I started again here, probably because you all play something here, but I only play Rising Star, where I log in once a day and that's it). I post more collages, photos, videos of some alternative music that nobody listens to, and beer of course, and shadows and reflections. And the week goes by fast. It's not that profitable, but I'm having a good time. !BEER

I'm having a good time

In the end I think that is what matters most. I believe I need to focus on the things that give me positive feeling and put the things away that just eat up my time and stress me.

I feel you there. I have some injured heels at the moment, but once they are better, I will be reducing my computer time and doing other activities.

I think it is a smart move to reduce your decks in Splinterlands and Forge. I feel that I am playing a lot with just 1 deck! how you manage 3 or even 2 is amazing.

At a time I was playing 4 decks in SL but after 5 years playing the game and fighting more and more powerful bots, I'm not that motivated anymore. So 2 decks will be well enough lol

I know how it feels. When you're not winning that much, you now want to play. The funny thing is when I am winning it's ok !

Winning can have a nice effect on our psychology but unfortunately losing has the contrary effect :-)

Honestly, it's impossible to deal with). Only to give it up completely. I have the same problem and almost nothing helps.

Maybe just writing a post right away in the morning! Or at least start in the morning to finish in the evening.

I find that I have a similar issue but I do have a few set posts that I try to do each week. Besides that, the rest of the posts tend to be whenever I get around to finishing them. I try to draft something and go back to it when I have time.

When I write a post I often do it within 30 minutes and I don't stop before I'm happy with it and then I publish it. I should maybe try to do the way you do...

Personally, I tend not to let the blogging part until later in the day unless it's a fill-in-the-blanks post like the one for my SplinterGlossary update (although in this case, I usually work on a number of posts on LeoGlossary during the day).

Like you, if I leave it to a later time, I can't focus to write my posts. I'd rather leave more mindless tasks for after the post was published since they don't require too much thinking, if any.

My wife told me to read the book "eat that frog" where she tells me that you should always start the day with the task that seems the most difficult. I should try it :-)

Yeah, that's good advice. Never got to do it quite like that, except on occasions. I always squeeze in something else in the morning less important.

Oftentimes, the best dose of medicine for anything ailing us is just a nice stroll outside and away from all the tech we have at our fingertips nowadays. 😊 !PIZZA

I agree. I normally go for runs once a day but this winter the weather is so bad here around that I always find an excuse for not going. I need to change my habits lol

It's an interesting question I ask myself often too. I have always wanted to spend less time playing Splinterlands but somehow I am always addicted - even though there's not much rewards these days. One way I am trying is to prioritise more important tasks first, for example, to write my post or complete my exercise for the day THEN play Splinterlands.

THEN play Splinterlands

I think this is quite key. My wife always tells me to do the annoying (the ones that cost efforts) first. But I still do the easy stuff first and then the day is too short for the difficult ones lol

I told you that games will burn your brain... 🤣
Just kidding as I had/have the same problem... But, the day has 24 hours and we had to make changes when something "doesn't work", or it takes too much of our time...

Lately, I have had the same feeling... Especially as it's winter, sitting a lot more in front of the computer, doing repetitive tasks, and at the end of the day, feeling empty as I didn't do anything meaningful...

It's also like that for me. It's cold and wet outside and we just spend time indoors. So as not to feel useless, I surf around aimlessly just to get the illusion to do something useful...

I know this situation very well, @achim03 :

I always end up with undone tasks that need more brainpower, like creating a post.

For me, that is especially the case during college term. On the other hand, even on days that are busy with offline stuff, I usually manage to play Splinterlands for a bit...

I've found posting on Liketu can be helpful. Maybe an image of a quotation (as in the Index4Index challenge). There is no pressure to write a lot of content, which can help the content to flow because once you write one or two sentences about the quotation (or whatever), you can sometimes get into the flow - but it doesn't matter so much on Liketu if you don't because it's image-based!

I have tested out Liketu and it can be an alternative for creating posts on a regular basis. Today, I decided to write my post before anything else and I managed. Let's see whether I will be more consistent with this strategy :-)

Can totally relate to that feeling of spending too much unproductive time at the computer. One suggestion: when organising your to do list, do the high priority tasks first, even if they're the ones taking more time. There's a really awesome book called "Eat that frog" that I recommend, it's an easy and fast read and will probably to increase that productivity! 😉 !PIZZA

It's really fun that you suggest that book because my wife has bought it for me. Unfortunately I have postponed reading it so far lol. Thanks a lot for your comment!

Over the last year I hardly managed to do my weekly update post, because I was spending a lot of time playing splinterlands.

I have now decided to completely stop and sell all my assets. The game was taking all my thinking time, causing me not to think about other creative things in my spare time.

I recognize the feeling that you do lots of repetitive tasks to gain little amounts of crypto here and there.

I have now drastically reduced those little tasks and the result is that I have time to write a post or two and the biggest improvement has been that I’m commenting again.

The fun thing is that connecting can be more profitable than all the small things I used to do.

Good luck with finding the balance for you.

I think we are both in a very similar situation. It's true that you can make some money with these games but it's intelectually not really challenging and in you lose time for other stuff like commenting and writing posts. In the end that's what I like about hive and I think I need to put my priorities in place again. Thanks for your great comment!
