Site Activities Resume

I have been on long holidays, even before the Christmas holidays. I worked in a construction company.
After the completion of my project last year in early September, I went on a long holiday.

Although the project was meant to be finished in December, my team and I worked more efficiently and ended earlier than expected, to give ourselves more time to rest.
Sometimes I might finish a project earlier than the stipulated time, and I will commence another project a few days after. But my boss gave me a long break after the completion of my last project.

I enjoyed the long holiday, even though it consumed a lot of money. Whenever I'm on holiday, I don't have a lot of cash, because I won't have access to site bonuses and allowances.
Before I started blogging and writing blog posts, I found it difficult to go for a long holiday, to avoid being broke.
But since I have been a part-time blogger, I enjoy going on holidays.

Every year, I process my vacation for April because fewer employees will be on sabbatical then. Although the leave is supposed to last two weeks,but I used to go for one week, the reason it's that whenever you go for a complete two weeks' leave. The management will transfer another Engineer to your site because site activities can't be stopped. The site must run daily, to meet the project deadlines.

I used to take one week off because it takes two weeks to complete a full leave. Due to the inability to stop site operations, management will send another Engineer to your site. To meet the project deadlines, the site must function every day.

I could recall that before I returned from one of my sabbaticals in 2019, the Engineer who had been assigned to my project site had scattered the site. He mismanaged the materials, and he even got into arguments with some employees.
Even though I was on leave, the employees were calling me. I ignored them, though, and took advantage of the two-weeks break to travel to three different states.
To avoid issues after the project, I informed the management when I got back about the improper handling of the materials.

Since then I preferred to go on a one-week sabbatical and I will be back to work on time.
I will also receive some money for the remaining leave I was unable to use. This aspect made my heart and soul happy, lol.

   2023 Site Resumption

I was eating chicken on the 3rd of January when I received a call from my boss to resume work the next day. Immediately I dropped the call, I got a mood swing because I will miss the holidays.
I thought about the stress and waking up early for work.

But as soon as I recalled the benefits and advantages of having a project site, my mood instantly returned to being joyful.
Everyone wants a stress-free life, including myself. Being able to get up whenever suits you and work for yourself is wonderful. I need to work hard now and rest later because I know the time when I will be my own boss will come soon.

I resumed on the 4th of January and I was posted to a new site for a road project, which is another slum area.

When I thought I'm done with slum areas, my boss didn't want to transfer me to the city.
The slum projects are always challenging and sometimes I get tired of working in that area.
I had no choice, so I collected the drawing and headed to the site.

The new location was far worse than my old one; it is a full slum, and there should be roads in this community. The region was swampy and not far from the lagoon.
There were several unstructured houses in the region, and the ground was covered in dirt.

I have been thinking about the project and how to complete it successfully. When I came home, I wrote some plans. The next day, I went to see the community's high chief and asked for the area boy's leader.
Before the commencement of any road project, you must meet with area boys and pay them in most areas in Lagos, Nigeria. They will make the work challenging to complete if you don't pay them.

I have already spoken to the leaders of the local boy's group, and we talked about their prices. I return to the office, where they will sort them as soon as they can.
I have been exploring the area, getting closer to the market women, the elderly, and some local boys.
I'm hoping this project is a success.

In conclusion, I'm glad to be back at work because l have missed my coworkers and the pleasure of the site. I have made new friends and gotten to know members of the royal families, some CDA leaders, and Government employees. I enjoy interacting with individuals and working as a team to develop a community.
At the end of the project, I will always be remembered in the community.
