I've read a tweet once about some like that. As a developer stop writing CVs, just dress up, enter any office building, look for the IT department, try offer help on every level.
People need to be able to barge for their well being. Having no contract at all is a freakin slippery slope. Even with a contract it is not even much better.

Oh, yeah... I too would advise to get a real contract. Or at least to understand the risks of a verbal one.
