avatar

How are you guys? I confess that it has started to be difficult to think about different themes. I am open to suggestions for the last theme and also for the next edition. Today I thought a lot until I thought it would be interesting to talk about Primitive Arts! Artistic manifestations that our ancestors left in the world and that still exist today. So, that's today's theme!

Well @aiuna, I know it is difficult to post anything everyday, especially a contest and with new ideas about art. One of the things is to go into detail about specific branches of art. This challenges you to think and you are doing a really good job with coming with ideas. Primitive art is a wonderful topic.

The Newspaper Rock

This is called "The Newspaper Rock" found in SouthWestern Utah. They are rock carvings left by the original inhabitants some 2,000 years ago. In Navajo, this rock is called "Tse' Hone'" which means a rock that tells a story. Read more at Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument

What story are these pictures trying to tell us? Nobody is exactly sure, but somebody took the time to cave the story in a rock with hundreds of pictures. To me it looks like a record of the events of daily life with quite a bit of hunting. Maybe they wanted those animals to be remembered. An outstanding thing to me is that wheel on the right side. Maybe they implemented the wheel into life and they found it helpful. I have no idea but I can see that from early on people want to express themselves. It seems they had no written language so they used these pictures to keep track of things and tell stories. Perhaps it was the first Hive Blog in history.

Right from time of the olden days, telling a story has been one of the importance of preserving the existences of man. And i can say this found rock calving by the people of Navajo is a very interesting and impressive one.

Rock carvings look very detailed. A lot of symbols in the shapes of animals and several other objects have been used here. Although we may not know the story, it is a reflection of how far we have come in terms of expressing ourselves.

Yes yes! It looks like they were keeping record of something.
Since they were mostly into hunting in the olden days probably they were keep record of their hunts to tell the next generation.
I guess this generation doesn't really care about such records.

When I read the post I immediately thought of the cave of the hands, which is located in Argentina, and when I saw your comment I said: Oh no! They already put it! But no, it was not the same art, nor the same place, however they are very similar to each other, because of the place where they expressed themselves, they used the stones for their expression, and in the way they did, using the natural materials of the place, amazing! Those drawings have been there for millennia, it is incredible how long they have endured and how valuable they became for contemporaries like us. Long live art!

Primitive arts can be said to be the oldest arts known to man, this arts can be calve from stones and woods in today art suggestion i present to you the Benni Ivory Mask, calve out using a wood.

Queen_Mother_Pendant_Mask-_Iyoba_MET_DP231460.jpg

The Benin ivory mask is a miniature sculptural portrait in ivory of Idia, the first Iyoba (Queen Mother) of the 16th century Benin Empire, taking the form of a traditional African mask. The masks were looted by the British from the palace of the Oba of Benin in the Benin Expedition of 1897.

Benni has one of the very rich and preserved cultural Arts in Nigeria

The carving details are splendid! I have found few carvers here at hive who carve wood, ivory and stone. I am glad that it is a skill people still enjoy immersing themselves in. I haven't tried carving myself yet but I am hoping to find a class near me where I can get the basics covered hopefully.

This ivory mask is a very popular one. I'm glad you brought it up as a suggestion. It tells about the African history.

What do you think about using architectural art as the theme for the Day 7 POB art contest? Participants can pick what architectural designs they would like to pick to talk more about why they find it interesting or what does it make them think of. Few examples of architectural designs which I really like are the following: Lotus Temple in India and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

No worries at all Aiuna! You have been doing a splendid job with picking themes for all 7 days. That can be quite intense hahahha especially if one experiences a mental block and ideas can't run through our minds.

Thank you for encouraging us to stay engaged and interact with others. 💖💖

First thing that came to mind as soon as I read the theme were Ancient Egyptian carvings which had several symbols and meanings behind them. They were used as carvings on walls, stones, rocks and tombs. They created their own writing system with 1000 various characters.

Egyptian art are always so dynamic and awring. They keep people awed. Whenever I take a look at an Egyptian god, I wonder what message the artist was trying to relay.

I can definitely recall some movies where I have seen them too! The one I can remember from the top of my head is The Mummy Returns.

The Egyptians were indeed a unique civilization. Not only for its architectural, commercial and city-level structure, but also for its different forms of expression such as these carved tablets. Incredible!

I couldn't agree more! Ancient Egyptian civilization came up with some extraordinary inventions during their time such as black ink, papyrus sheets, and their irrigation system!

I think if we lived where these works of art are, it would be great to take photos of our own. In the meantime we must refer to the beloved internet, it is my humble opinion! Greetings!

It is not the contest proposal. But we had a theme in this issue which was ''Make your own art'' and people had to share their own art.

To answer your question first, how about you consider plastic art. Its is not really spoke of but its a beautiful type of art. All arts are beautiful of course, but this one has compelling concepts behind It.

You would be awed at the things people can do with plastic.

Thank you.

Back to the word for today. Primitive art!.

Primitive things have always thrilled me. They always get me thinking, how were the people like, what prompted the artist to create such art? And a whole other questions.

Above is an art work made by an American. The art work looks like the artist just looked at of his window and decided to draw what he sees judging from the perspective.
In general, it looks great. The whole landscape.

I remember a movie I watched some years back showing how people lived in the past and how they were caved into stones to be remembered.

Primitive arts came to play as there were no camera back then, things were caned into stones to be remembered.

One of Nigerians popular artist state is Benin and here is one of their works

Benin_bronze_in_Bristol_Museum.jpg

This is how the old and new kings of Benin do look like on their thrones but there are so many changes as at now since things are getting modernized.

Primitive arts are awesome, they bring back the old pasts for the younger generations to learn about their culture and traditions more.

Impressive work of art made of sculpted stone. A Beninese genius without a doubt, to achieve those lines, to dig deep to arrive at this end result, a true Nigerian artwork.

Excellent idea @aiuna I will try to meet all the requirements! I love the theme you have chosen. And the image of @mineopoly reminded me of the cave of the hands, which is located in the northwest of the province of Santa Cruz, in my beloved Argentina.

source

It is said that these cave paintings were made by the Tehuelches Indians and their ancestors. They date from approximately 9300 years, and among the paintings we find negative and positive hands, human figures, guanacos, concentric points, grouped lines and representations of the sun.

The color of the images was obtained from natural raw material such as deposits, red was obtained from hematite, white from limestone, black from manganese or charcoal, and yellow from limonite or yellow ocher.

source

In 1999 it was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is located about 160km from the closest town which is Perito Moreno, where the Perito Moreno National Park is also located.

I firmly believe that art is the purest and most genuine expression of the human being, without it we would not appreciate the colors, sounds, shapes, textures and many other things that our sense of art awakens in our being at different times of life. our lives. Art is the expression of the heart. Have an excellent day!

Wonderful! How do people come up with amazing things like this? So many hands cravings.... It's just so awesome.

But I want to ask, is it that people mark their hands on the rock or it was all art?

Nice suggestion by the way.

Those caves date back more than 9000 years. So imagine that our ancestors made those hands so perfect to be from that time and having painted with products that they made by hand with natural inputs such as rocks of different colors. It is a world heritage site for having so many thousands of years intact there. The Tehuelches Indians were those who inhabited the Perito Moreno area. Amazing, right?
