Can UBI really help poor and solve the problem of widening gap of income?

In this world inequality is increase day by day. Income gap between the rich and poor is widening with every second. So, it seems that Universal Basic Income (UBI) may be a solution by which everyone will receive a fixed share of income every month. It is advocated by many scholars and even Rahul Gandhi, leader of Congress party in India also said once that his party would implement it when they will come in power. Can this really help poor and solve the problem of widening gap of income?
