I would like to add something, that is probably also true for blogging outside of Hive, but very important on Hive: Interact with other people! Engage with posts of others. There are people, that just post and leave the blockchain until they post again. That could work sometimes, but it is not a very nice way.
I think, this is also true for other blogs. If you just post and leave it, that is not enough, since community is king. Even if it is harder outside the blockchain, engagement is important. At least try to reply to comments, if you find it too difficult to comment on other posts.

Great point much appreciated. I've definitely learnt this and the thing is, it's the most enjoyable part of it all. I was guilty on Hive and on web2 of lack of engagement but it's really what it's all about, community. The discussions also trigger thoughts for future topics! Win-win!
