Crisis Led Innovation - COVID-19

It's no secret that during this COVID saga the whole World is struggling to acquire enough ventilators for their medical institutions.

Not only were they already expensive but now, with the sudden increase in demand, they are becoming even more expensive in many instances and even harder to come by specially for the African countries.

But fortunately for us humans, we tend to be tenacious when facing adversities and more often than not, come out victorious when it's all said and done.

This time it's no different. Although so far in Rwanda we have relatively less cases with 150 cases and 0 deaths, we can't slack because if there were to be an outbreak it could spell disaster as not only we wouldn't have enough infrastructures or resources to deal with t, but as a very densily populated country it could end up being catastrophic.

Best to be proactive and so did the a team of Rwandan biomedical engineers from the Integrated Polytechnic Regional College Kigali (IPRC) led, by Dr Stephen Rulisa.

Rwandan biomedical engineers from the Integrated Polytechnic Regional College Kigali (IPRC) have successfully produced the first ventilator as the country mobilizes more resources to battle COVID-19.

A prototype has been unveiled and sources say the ventilator will be released for use soon.

The team, carefully guided by Dr Stephen Rulisa, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Rwanda, and the Ministry of Health, says the prototype was produced in eight days.

According to Dr Rulisa, the Engineers have developed a ventilator that works exactly as the ones available on the market.

The team managed to make one for demonstration in 8 days and if/when supported, they're sure they can build one even in 3 days.

For now they're looking for support in finances and infrastructure which I'm sure they'll get. Innovation and creativity at it's finest, man am I proud of my countrymen.

And this is just in Rwanda. Without a doubt, I'm positive as time goes by more and more innovative solutions will start popping up from all over the World, and that after it's all said and done, we shall all be better for it.

This too shall pass, humanity shall win yet again;

PEACE!!
