Weekly Win Notes: Splinterlands Dragon Challenge
Dragons of some kind feature in the following 19 battles submitted by Archmage users from their accounts automated by our service. The first battle was manually played but included anyway because it's a good one. A brief note about each battle is above its link. Enjoy issue #13 of the Archmage Courier.
Overall Impressions:
Everyone loves Quix. If you own one, you want to see it played and winning. Same with Chaos Dragon - seeing where the Scattershot will go is great fun.
On the more affordable end, Chwala is king in Dragon. One of the best Thorns tanks, it is good under either Drake or Kretch.
The final overall impression is that lots of the Dragon cards really stretch the definition of what is a Dragon. Take a closer look at the art some time - it's fascinating!
Quix, the Devious, doesn't look much like a Dragon. Zyvax Vuul looks moderately like one. Desert Dragon is definitely a Dragon. I trust that in fact they all are Dragon.

Delwyn Dragonscale at least has the scales of a Dragon. Here, a sad Sea Monster gets hit by Serpentine Mystic's Affliction on the first hit. From there it doesn't go well for the opponent.

Drake of Arnak has the face of a Dragon. And they're a drake, so that must count. When they summon a Grund and Goblin Psychic at the front and a Djinn Chwala on the rear, you should watch out. Beware the angry Grund!

Drake of Arnak and Djinn Chwala - it could almost be called a classic combo by now, it's so prevalent. Throw in Gargoya Scrapper on the tail end to soak a hit if needed. Easy wins on a budget.

Level 1 Drake beats Level 2 Mylor Crowling here. Sand Worm does most of the work. Grund and Goblin Psychic team up again. Taunt on the Mycelic Slipspawn is vital. Some lucky timing on top.

Daria Dragonscale looks least like a Dragon of all, except maybe Selenia Sky. But, like their sibling Delwyn, Daria has Dragon scales too. Cursed Windeku mirror match, but Daria's Sneak friends are too good.

Scavo Hireling and Drake of Arnak at work here. Djinn Chwala is better than Shieldbearer under these conditions. In this Pelacor Arbalest mirror match, Dragon beats Life.

Kretch versus Thaddius. Chwala versus Windeku. It just falls apart first here for Death. Proof that Kretch is versatile, unlocking Dragon monsters for 3 mana with Epic levels.

Is Chwala ever better with Quix than with Drake? It does all the work here, and the reduced Ranged Attack plays a role too.

Drake and Chwala beats Thaddius and Windeku again, but we see an Igor Darkspear in this match as the backline. It's an underrated Epic, as are most of the creatures with no abilities. They might seem boring, but they're rarely bad.

Quix beats Kelya here. If there's one lesson from this game, it is - don't mess with an angry Chaos Dragon. Also maybe upgrade your Chain Golem to Level 2 so that it gets Void if you can.

Quix again. Great summoner. Another case where Void on the Chain Golem would be nice. Prisomologist does some work. But the star of the show is Pelacor Arbalest. Great card.

Silenced Quix versus Silenced Tarsa. Keep Your Distance rules. Scavo Hireling and Lava Launcher are the workers, holding up well in front.

Level 1 Quix beats Level 2 Sloan. Quix is very popular in these submissions. An Adelade Brightwing too - pretty. These two summoners counter each other and all that is left is the speed difference and the extra monsters available. One-sided?

Quix versus Sloan again. A bit of a mismatch. Like trying to play Alric into Bortus, or Malric into Zintar. Scattershot on the Chaos Dragon bypasses Taunt a couple of times, but not to much effect here.
https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_861fb7e468e9104149b91f2f898e5e10&ref=archmage.app
And yet more evidence that Kretch and Chwala is better than Thaddius and Windeku at low leagues and low mana. Moving on.

Chwala with a Hireling and a Venari Crystalsmith? Without some way of hitting the back-line fast and hard, this is hard to tackle.

Drake beats Thaddius again. The minus Life and plus Armor counter each other, but Drake teams aren't heavily Magic Attack. Also simply having more bodies on the field often makes a difference.

The Chaos Dragon knows where to shoot here. The Scattershot attacks are well placed. Quix beats Obsidian nicely in this one, even though they are not usually a direct counter.
