Transparent | De serie a un musical [Esp-Eng]

Transparent 4 temporada.jpg

For a couple of months now I have wanted to nourish myself with more LGBTIQ+ content because even though I am openly lesbian, I don't usually watch that kind of content. I've always felt that it's like labeling everything but well, things have changed and it's time to watch especially that kind of content to know "where the world is going" and in my Google search I found "Transparent" an Amazon Prime Video original series where the protagonist begins his transition and I was hooked from chapter one to the end.

Beginning

In 2014 the first season of a series that would mark a before and after in the series of this type was released. This is a dramatic but also comic series in which we accompany the Pferfferman family through which was a shocking revelation which was that Mort, now Maura, was going to begin to accept herself as what she has always felt she is, a woman.

The entire first season is about how the family accepts that Mort is now Maura and all the insecurities that are uncovered as a result, such as: What shall we call her? What shall we call her now? Was she always like this? All of those doubts, at least a small part of them, are resolved before the close of the first season.

Middle

Due to the success of the first season, all the revolution it caused and all the good numbers Amazon Prime Video received because of this series, several award nominations and an incredible ovation from the LGBTIQ+ community, more seasons were filmed!

The middle two seasons (for me), were season two and three where we explore Maura's life in more depth, we get to her roots with which she "explains" why she is the way she is and the aversion that several members of her mother's family have to this change that for many can be very drastic.

We also explore the lives of her three children who, as a result of all this change in Maura, have relived their pasts and not all of them have fared very well with this. We also see part of the history and life of Shelly, the mother of Maura's children and ex-wife.

In these seasons, Maura's friendship with trans people, how her life changed as a result of this change, and also her youngest daughter, Ali, begins to experience much more about her sexuality and so on.

Fourth Season

For me this season (which I found out it was the last one while researching to write about it) was the one I identified with the most because everyone was going through a series of family and personal problems, as well as the past seasons, but I felt they had matured to the point that they were able to accept their problems, accept their own and others' mistakes, and seek help to continue.

There are also very interesting things like the trip, the reunion of Maura's past with her present and an ending a little unexpected for me to see that everyone takes it very naturally that one of them stays for a couple of months.

In addition to all this, and without making spoilers, culture and religion go hand in hand in many countries, and that is noticeable in all series, movies and documentaries, this one was no exception. The Jews have been through a lot for many years and I feel they give a positive reinforcement to the fact that they as a community are still united and are every day more open to this new reality of life that we all live as the inclusion of sexually diverse people.

The Musical

Oh.

Oh. This musical. When I was doing a little research on the series to have a little more information to write about (not just write spoilers) I stumbled upon that pretty much the last season was season four and then, as a quick and meaningful closure, they did a one and a half hour musical where they sneakily did an update and conclusion to all of their stories.

You may be wondering, and the exact same thing happened to me, why did this misfortune happen all of a sudden? Well, it turns out that actor Jeffrey Tambor, the one who plays Maura Pfefferman, at the end of 2017 in the middle of the #MeToo movement had two allegations of sexual abuse made against him by people from the cast of "Transparent".

The actor was fired and because of that, they structured everything to make this musical. I admit that I thought it was an appropriate closure due to what happened, I liked it a lot and it had many significant moments that as a spectator filled my soul with the knowledge that life smiled on them after all.

The End

I discovered this series just this year, it ended in 2019 sadly. I liked it a lot because yes, it is a dramatic series but within its drama there were quite comical scenes that broke the tension of the plot.

Something I'm still not entirely comfortable with and I mentioned it to a couple of friends is the blatant use of substances for almost anything, apparently it was just marijuana but I felt it was all kinds and I feel like that's reigning supreme in the series and movies nowadays.

Shelly's character made a lot of noise to me at the beginning but it was the lack of information about her. In the last season and in the musical we get a lot more development about her and you end up understanding her a lot more.

The reasons for which the series ended seem to me even a little offensive and I even felt that it was like "the last straw" for a series of this type to live a scandal of this type. I didn't give more information about it because I don't feel it is necessary to tarnish this series any further. It is a series for adults due to its language, its high sexual content and the obvious use of substances, not to mention other things.

Would you recommend it? Yes.
Would I see it again? Without hesitation.

Extraordinary series, regrettable what happened with one of the actors and certain accusations. It is an important series for the LGBTIQ+ community with a cast that does great quality work.

For me, the abuse allegations were very shocking.
It's something I'm still not completely over.
I appreciate the comment and support.
