NFT Talks with the 'Tweens

Is it 5 o'clock yet?

"Is it 5 o'clock yet?", my youngest asks me almost every afternoon. "Can we ding-dong at our friend's door already?"

My two young kids have met a few kids in the neighborhood and enjoy playing with them every afternoon until the dark. They ride their scooters, skateboards, bikes, and rollerblades and then come home famished and dirty. Haha. Don't get me wrong. I love that they get to shake off their excess energy playing outdoors, away from gadgets.

Earning Money Games

This afternoon, they came back home with their friends in tow. They saw their Kuya (elder brother) playing Splinterlands. One of their friends had a peek, and asked, "What is that?"

"Oh, it's an earning money game," my youngest replied. They know that any game we play on our devices would have to be an "earning money game".

NFT?

"You mean an NFT?" their friend asked. I was surprised to hear this eleven year old boy knows about NFT's. "Non-Fungible Tokens," he added.

Hunter Lucero, Dietician (Hive Punk)

"Cool kid. Cool kid," I thought. Haha. I mean, apart from my 12-year-old son, it's not everyday that I have a conversation like this with a kid.

Well, the conversation did not really last for a long time. I asked him if they have play-to-earn games too, but he said they don't. His parents didn't want to buy him Axies. LOL. He learned about NFT's from YouTube!. Oh, the world we live in now, eh?

He then added, "I even heard about an NFT game about farming! You only have to invest $2 or something like that". I thought, is this boy talking about Dcrops?! EEEEkkkkkk! I just remembered, I have not visited drcops for a long time already. Dang it, my crops already got spoiled.

The Future Is Now.

It was refreshing to hear kids, barely teens, talk about NFT's, play-to-earn games, and "investing". These topics are anyway going to be mainstream someday soon. These kids are lucky to be aware of such techs early on.

Speaking of "investing", my kid again had managed to buy another Chaos Legion pack in Splinterlands today. I don't have the time to meddle with his Splinterlands account anymore, like I used to. He does what he deems fit with it -- play, rent/rent out cards, and yes, grow his collection power. I think he's doing well. I can see that so far, with his purchase tonight, he already profited.

I have to say, he has been very lucky with his account. Last time, he even got a legendary card from the airdrop!

The only thing I cannot persuade him to do is to share his battle stories and gaming tips here on Hive. He is the one who actually teaches me some strategies to win especially in low mana cap battles. Honestly, I don't want him to see me play. He critiques my gameplay a lot. "Mommy, I think I know why you lose so much. It's your cards placement," he would comment. Or, "Why do you play high mana cards always?" Sometimes, "You have to learn to see what other players use in different rule sets." Grrrr... Okay, stop. Haha

Hopefully, I can get him to pilot their Hive account soon. Or perhaps it would be Little Miss (7) who would... These kids are the future, and they are lucky to know Web 3.0 through Hive.

I'm loving to hear that there are smart kids out there who play-to-earn... and smart parents who enable that!!

The future is changing fast and it's great to see that kids can be engaged with, and enjoy, decentralized crypto!!

The landscape has changed a lot and I'm happy to see these kids get informed and involved one way or another.
