[PL / ENG] Steven Finlay: "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Business"
Wrzucam kolejną książkę, którą czytałam długo, ze względu na okrutny brak czasu (masa roboty i studiów!), a nie dlatego, że przynudzała, czy coś - co to to nie, wręcz powiem, że jak na taką tematykę - książkę o uczeniu maszynowym w biznesie - czytało się ją niczym powieść przygodową, serio!
I'm posting another book that I read for a long time due to the cruel lack of time (a lot of work and studies! ), Not because it was boring or something - what is it, I will even say that for such a topic - a book about machine learning in business - it read like an adventure novel, really!

Sięgnęłam po tę książkę po prostu dlatego, że wpadła mi w oko, na jakiejś promocji na pepper.pl czy gdzieś - ebook był w bardzo uczciwej cenie, mianowicie za darmo. Pobrałam, otworzyłam - i okazało się to ogromnie ciekawe, więc przeczytałam całość z dużym zainteresowaniem.
I reached for this book simply because it caught my eye, on some promotion on pepper.pl or somewhere - the ebook was at a very fair price, namely for free. I downloaded it, opened it - and it turned out to be very interesting, so I read the whole thing with great interest.
Przykuła moją uwagę dlatego, że to jest właśnie ten obszar, który sobie zaocznie studiuję: Data Science i Machine Learning. I o ile same studia mi się bardzo podobają, to wykłady i prezentacje, hmm... pozostawiają trochę do życzenia. Ale ja ogólnie nie lubię i nigdy nie lubiłam wykładów. Wolę książki.
A tu jest cały świat uczenia maszynowego opisany bardzo przystępnym językiem - sam autor twierdzi, że jeśli nie potrafisz wytłumaczyć modelu prostym językiem, to znaczy, że albo model jest kiepski, albo sam go nie rozumiesz. I takie właśnie jest tu podejście - ma być prosto i czytelnie, miejsce dla szczegółów technicznych jest gdzie indziej.
It caught my attention because this is the area I study in absentia: Data Science and Machine Learning. And as much as I like the studies themselves, the lectures and presentations, hmm ... leave a little to be desired. But I generally don't like lectures and never have. I prefer books.
And here is the whole world of machine learning described in plain english - the author himself says that if you can't explain the model in simple language, it means that either the model is bad or you don't understand it yourself. And this is the approach here - it has to be simple and legible, the place for technical details is elsewhere.
I żeby nie było - taką książkę techniczną też mam. Bez obaw, tej nie będę tutaj recenzować. I nie tylko dlatego, że utknęłam na drugim rozdziale ;) A utknęłam, bo to trzeba usiąść przed komputerem i daną rzecz przerobić, żeby coś z tego wynieść, a ja po prostu nie miałam na to czasu. Książkę Finlaya po prostu przeczytałam w ramach ciekawości i relaksu. Czy wniosła coś nowego dla mnie w ramach dziedziny, którą studiuję? Otóż tak. Książka Finlaya była dla mnie niczym oddalenie się o krok i spojrzenie na świat sztucznej inteligencji z szerszej perspektywy. Pozwoliła zrozumieć pewne zależności, o których na zajęciach było mówione, ale nie byłam w stanie ich załapać. A tu owszem.
Ta książka oczywiście nikogo nie nauczy bycia data scientistem - ale pozwoli zrozumieć, na czym polegają te technologie, które otaczają nas coraz bardziej, z każdej strony. Moim skromnym zdaniem - ciekawa pozycja.
And by the way - I have such a technical book too. Don't worry, I won't review this one here. And not only because I got stuck on the second chapter ;) And I got stuck, because you have to sit in front of the computer and do a given thing to get something out of it, and I just didn't have time for it. I just read Finlay's book out of curiosity and relaxation. Did it bring something new to me within the field I am studying? Well, yes. For me, Finlay's book was like taking a step back and looking at the world of artificial intelligence from a broader perspective. It allowed me to understand some relationships that were discussed in class, but I was unable to catch them. And here I am.
This book, of course, will not teach anyone to be a data scientist - but it will help you understand what these technologies that surround us more and more, from every side, are all about. In my humble opinion - an interesting position.
