An Acute Angle To "Pace Bowling" :[ Part-1]

Hello,
Good day to all.It was in the last previous time of the cricketing discourse,I showcased some of the early moments and memories I bore from my deep core of heart, part of the history I shared and some of which events in world cricket, that still after passing couple of years time-- general people and fans, cricket experts and sportsman all appreciate and acknowledge. Such great things, right?

Today,I would like to speak on something different, something out of the conventional box I spoke earlier, the analytical standpoints with personal viewpoints, lets go and explore the different aspects of seam bowling skills and specialities.Exactly, we would be moving our brain to see and explore what makes a "seam bowler to be great".

Talent Comes First.

Although I dont like the idea, that its all about a providential talent given by the Almighty, the God-gifted sort of things, but to be honest, in the real comes, when it comes to performance and efficiency, these factors dont make anyone steps ahead from other. So why bringing this point first?

Out of fun for the paradoxical part, nothing else,so simple. The above proposition I made isnt quite true universally. Throughout the years time and catching a glimpse of the long held history of cricket, since we could been able to witness players becoming professional, with the advent of a new system of that offered, cricket geekers to earn a living in cricket game, then some big names started to appear -- Wasim Akram,Imran Khan,Brett Lee,Shoib Akhter, Alan Border,Michell Johnson Etc.

These were legends of pace bowling phenomenon for these days, but what was the case of speciality, these pacers had? Some of the traits I found that, these bowlers got a ready capacity of throwing balls and the deltoid muscle of those pacers were somehow more structurally developed and formulated for attempting to adjust in bowling actions . Of course, those physical traits were part of the talent which they inherited by birth.

Training As "The Best Weapon".

Can you say, what makes a bowler achieve killer speed in their bowling actions? Is that the physicality or vital strength, the body momentum or anything else? To me the best answer to this question would be the loads of training, effective and adjustive.Because only a perfect training helps a pacer generate pace and the swiftness that play as a hallmark of seaming action.

Now,as national level pace bowlers spend time on the gym,its more of the availing their body to find shape to generate pace.Swift pace bowling with vehemence, considered as the x -factor that sets a bowler as a powerful factor before any batsmen and as confidence increases with pace, its more likely the performance would be boosted up with this.

So,no alternative to training in the nets, hours and hours of practice and applying different methodology in the bowling action, making errors and then again recorrecting full term ;cap a pie,re shuffle and re arrange, until the best version pops out, the premium refined package gets ready for action.

Dedication For Forming Greatness.

Now, the first thing that comes as a secret truth for any pace bowler in the world that there is,no good or bad time for anyone -even you have the worst bowling actions to the most attractively decorated bowling action, you never could say when your day would come, and if there would be any of bad session spell ready for you.Your best ball could be hit for a six,and even sometimes a mediocre ball proves efficient for hunting wicket.

That is called experience and tactile sense. When dedication to common actions join together and bowlers could keep the hold of consistency button for longer period, its then when seamers get to see success. All the matters of dedication and hard work pays ts worth---sooner or later.

I always put an example when it comes to persistent dedication. If you are a regular cricket spectator, then you mjght have seen the fact that, two Aussie bowler having their own unique strenght in their respective particular regions.I am talking about Pat Cummins & Mitchel Starc.

Mtchel Starc in one case, the only bowler in rerecent history to cross 100 Mile mark in the International Test Cricket Level. It is his falcon like Arm Action that generates such speed, but in seaming sector, speed is not the last word of bowling efficiency and Starcs agile, attractive but inefficacy at some stage, makes me say that -- lack of dedicated consistency in his bowling.

On the other hand,Pat Cummins is an ideal example of dedication and persistency. Hearing some of the world class batter's speech,I understood what that is "simple yet magical" in his action.

His bowling style is relentlessly formulated, of course that came from practice in the net session ;with the potent capacity to ask dotted question in front of the batter's mind.Whether to leave the bowl or drive gently, keeping up or blocking. The problem of indecision what lets the batter lose wicket, and offering Cummins grasp wickets regularly .

Sense of "Situation Judgment".

Most of the time, this characteristics of a bowler make one's character great, that is to help finding proper sense in the right time.If the match situation demands a gentle push in, playing defensibly and allowing the batter try to make stroke and fall prey to the trap, making the captains plan come out successful, only a good experienced bowler could give such things.

Limited over cricket allows pacers to be intelligent and deceitful. Cutting off pace could be catastrophically lethal,we have seen that in recent times, just like new revolution came with slowers and cutters and modern day cricket got new shape with it.But, eventually its not spinners but pacers who hold the beauty of bowling quite in superior manner.

Pace bowling with different types of swing (late swing, reverse swing,in and out swing, top swing, induced swing and dipping swing etc), lots of variation came into the game of cricket. But, what is special that of to be able to manipulate in right time towards a right way, sensing the batters mind and inclinations.

Thats all for today.Maybe this would take another turn to complete the whole theme, but I guess you have enjoyed the analysis. Thanks for the patience to read sensibly, see you again in another day.Till then, good -bye.

Most fast bowlers have a natural ability like you said and they only improve on those abilities. Quickness of arm speed and finger whipping through the ball is where the speed comes from and why there are only so many great bowlers around.

Hmm..Thats true,sir.
Usually, I had a firm belief that, there is nothing as talent, everything must be achieved, but then I understood, there are such things controlled by invisible nature, e.g. Shoib Akhter, Dale Steyn,Archer etc.
They are gifted, basically. Arm speed generation, well you said the exact answer.Congrats!
Thanks for your insightful opinion..

Nicely written. At primary school I was my teams fastest pace bowler but that ended as soon as I started high school. My fave pace bowler of all time was "Thommo" for his bizarre unorthodox style. He bowled so many wides but somehow managed to retain his place as one of Australia's leading fastmen back in the 80s.

Ah,thanks for the compliment.
Its always nice to look out in our own childhood memories, back at the schooling and early teenage period.I was in my school days had fairly dreamy experience back then,as I had chance to be my inter-school tournament captain, being a fast bowler,I also enjoyed back those days.

Nice to read about your memories also.
Have a nice day,jobiker.

Those are wonderful fast bowler list and according to me left arm fast bowler are more dangerous because of their natural angel. without practice they can't be take much control but still with practice and precautions, injury chances are more for these extreme fast bowlers.
