Ask LEO: Are NFT Projects Like Splinterlands the Future of Video Games As We Know It?

Splinterlands is an interesting project. Founded roughly 3 years ago, Splinterlands has continually expanded and unfolded a great deal of new use cases, applications and more.

Many might say that Splinterlands is to the NFT world as LEO is to the Web3 social media movement.

Seeing as LeoFinance is my main source of news and info about the crypto space, I came across this article: What is Splinterlands DEC? - Splinterlands (DEC) Guide which outlines Splinterlands and honestly goes into ridiculous depth about the game.

The depth of info in this post is quite large, sitting at a 41 minute read and 8114 words! Astronomical, one might say.

In it, such topics are discussed as:

  • Introduction to Splinterlands DEC
  • Splintertalk (SPT)
  • SplinterShards (SPS)
  • What is Splinterlands DEC used for?
  • How do you earn Splinterlands DEC?
  • How much Splinterlands DEC per day can I earn?
  • Burning Splinterlands cards for DEC
  • Splinterlands DEC + DeFi
  • 3 ways Splinterlands DEC can maximise your SPS airdrop
  • Pros and cons of buying Splinterlands DEC
  • Should I buy Splinterlands (DEC) in 2021?
  • and many more sub topics!

In an effort to expand my knowledge about Splinterlands, I gave this post a thorough read (yes, it took me more than 41 minutes as I tried to soak all of the great info in).

As someone who is on the sidelines of this NFT revolution - focusing more heavily on trading, as I have for the past several years - I am interested to see this evolve and become something more than just a fringe industry within the cryptosphere.

Ask LEO: What does the LeoFinance community think of Splinterlands and similar NFT games? Is it a revolution in online gaming as we know it or just another passing crypto fad like ICOs?

I also highly recommend the lengthy and incredibly informative post by @crypto-guides: https://leofinance.io/@crypto-guides/what-is-splinterlands-dec

Cheers for the shoutout of our Splinterlands DEC guide. it's probably the best of our LeoFinance Crypto Guides.

If you or anyone else here would like to get involved in the project and earn some LEO for your contributions, then check out this quick FAQ.

When it comes to NFT games, I think they're here to stay.

They're pretty much just DeFi with a gamified element to adjusting your investments vs returns.

I just see them as a fun interface for DeFi and it's certainly not going anywhere soon.

I can't see how NFT gaming is not the clear future of the industry. Finally, gamers will have the ability to actually own in game assets that they have been spending money on for years. Not only will it bring more satisfaction to the players, but players will be more likely to spend, knowing that if they decide to move on to another game they can sell what they've bought or earned.

Splinterlands and other trailblazers are just the tip of the iceberg. In the coming years AAA game companies will realize the potential and jump on the bandwagon. Can you imagine when games like Madden or Call of Duty join the space?

This technology will change the industry completely, in my opinion for the better!

In their current shape and form, they aren't really intriguing but once NFT's become interoperable and transferable to any chain in the crypto world, you will be able to do unimaginable things with them.

To give you a short answer, yes but they need more time. It is also crucial to understand which will last in the long term. Think of the NFT boom the same as you are thinking about the ICO boom during the last bull run. Many will survive but a lot of them will be thrown under the bus.

And yeah, the post you mentioned was a bit too long for my taste but when you look at the full scope of the DEC token you kinda understand why it has to be like that.
