Creation Curation Frustration

avatar

Much like anything else online, there seems to be a lot of confusion and general struggling. I have heard it takes 100 posts before you find your voice. I'm not sure how well that really stacks up. If you're only on post # 4 relax, you've got a ways to go yet. Do some people get noticed sooner? Absolutely, while on the other hand, some go months with little engagement.
My advice, since day one has always been "be yourself", write about things you are passionate about. People from your particular tribe will find you. Never ever steal content. Will it get engagement? Sure it will. Is it worth it in the end? IMHO definitely not. People always seem to know when you do this. Why risk it? At the end of the day, all you have is your good name.
So, show up every day and write write write. The great thing about steem and like my friend @Jongolson says "You don't have to write War & Peace for each post." But certainly, write. Some ideas for original content can be found in everyday things. Had a bad or funny day, write about it. People love "a day in the life" stories. At least I do. For whatever that is worth to you. Found a different approach to affiliate marketing? That's right, make a post about that. Your voice will come, your audience will come. Maybe just not as fast as you'd like.
There are dozens of websites out there that tell you the "Best" way to find your blogging voice. Spend a few minutes on google and see what speaks to you. Keep posting toward that magic number of posts, whether it's 100 or 1000. You are in this for the long-haul, right?

What can you do in the meantime? Get out there on Steemit and be active. Upvote! You should shoot for curating about 10-20 posts a day. What does that mean? Upvote and resteem those posts that are good and or resonate with you. Will you get curation rewards for voting? Sure you will but, you should be voting for good content. Of course, good is very subjective here. I will never upvote, just for the sake of upvoting. Remember what I said up there about your name? Why attach your name to rubbish? That .0000002 steem is just not worth it in the long run. People can always see who is voting on a post.
Another thing to do is engage. If you see a post you love, take a moment and comment. Doesn't have to be much. Just let the author know you liked it. Same goes with not liking or agreeing with something. Just don't be a jerk about it. Another thing, engage with people before asking for upvotes. That will also come in time. They will seek out your content if they see your name show up in comments. Who knows? That whale you've been after might like something you do and give you a big fat upvote someday.

In the end. maybe you won't find Waldo. He's already found himself. Go out there and find your voice and find you.

Thanks for writing a great post that I can upvote! :)

Let us put that number to something closer... after 10-20 posts it gets easier to write, with 50 you are a guru, and over 100 you have your voice and regular readers... ;)

I know that struggle very well myself. But I'm just starting and little by little every upvote/comment to my posts is already a win! Awesome post thank you!
