Layers and Polkadot

In the crypto world, there are different types of layers but the ones going to be discussed are layer 1 and layer 2 normally represented as L1 and L2. Differentiating these layers and what they represent and coins which are classified in them are easy. And these layers are also called layer solutions.

What is a Layer 1 solution?

In simple terms, layer 1 solution or blockchain are solutions that can improve its protocol base by itself and make the system handle more work. The relationship in L1 in crypto is that it prefers to keep the network decentralized and in terms of security, they are the best. Some layer 1s include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Cardano, etc. They are also referred to as the application layer commonly known as dApps.

What is a layer 2 solution?

Layer 2 solutions or blockchain is a blockchain network that can easily confirm transactions faster in terms of speed than the major network itself. In layer 2 solutions, the framework is built on top of an existing blockchain system and its only goal is to transfer transactions with speed. They are often designed to handle micropayments and examples are payment channels, roll-ups, sidechains, and plasma chains and also the lightning network of Bitcoin.

Polkadot

Polkadot are network protocols that allow random choice or chance of tokens to be transferred across blockchains. It can either be public, open, or even private blockchains. Polkadots operate or function on parachains that is they operate on L1 blockchains in parallel operations to achieve scalability.

The current state of Polkadot is like saying L1 and an ecosystem can build on its network. The hardest job in crypto is building a blockchain from scratch and then in terms of security, it has to be entirely safe.
