The cost and curse of power

Some crave for it, while some abuse it.

Power comes in different ways and forms, and they are different types of power. power can be, power of the mind, power of faith, power of will and power of control, etc.

According to @c01n-d0z3r in a post titled Reaching up and reaching out he talked about the knowledge being power:
Knowledge is power, and this environment it jam-packed with amazing people that set this network apart from the rest!!

In talking about the power of control, it can be good or it can be bad, depending on who's in charge. Who says power isn’t good? Well, you might or might not be wrong. In my terms, I would define power as a medicine to be in control, to rule, and to be in charge but on the other hand when you allow it to take over you by hurting people with it and can’t control it becomes abusive.

Just like getting a drug without the right prescription from a pharmacist or a doctor thereby getting to abuse it. Power gives us the ability to place control over a subject and without the right source of power, that is, where you got the power from or who ordained/authorizes the power to you in other words just like they say you’re what you eat and how you’re being nurtured to the level of you attaining that power will determine how you will utilize it either with a positive or negative effect.

In terms of politics, I would say power is an authority by which a political party possesses that tend to counter d decision and will of its masses.

For example in terms of compelling others against their will, when an older brother instructs his brother who is younger than him to do or act on something which doesn't interest him, but because he's much older and has the power over the younger one "in terms of age difference i.e. seniority" the younger one would have no choice but to do as he was instructed to do. In that regards the elder one has exercised power over his younger brother unknowingly to him cos he feels it's his right.

A friend shared an experience with me earlier this week, of how a girl who was once a contract cleaner for hotels and got the chance to clean for a 5-star hotel, which she hasn’t done before. Luckily for her, the Managing Director of the hotel got to take note of her and liked the way she works and made her his cleaner for his office alone.

Months later, from being a personal cleaner, she was promoted to become his assistant, taking care of activities while he was away and supervising other staff.

Suddenly, she changed from being the cool gentle girl who has loving and understanding to being the hot-tempered no-nonsense-taking person. She became controlling, and everyone became scared of her because she can surcharge anyone for coming a minute late or for a little mistake. Now, that’s power getting control of her.

Another example of power was the European encroachment into West Africa, these European powers showed utmost superiority in the area of wielding Sophisticated weaponry. As at the time the various tribal groups in West Africa who had little or no idea of how how to wield such weapons when compared to their bows, arrows, swords, and fetish powers had to submit to their rule. With so much manpower on the ground to fight but inferior weapons to defend their territories the people of West Africa stood little or no chance and eventually they were conquered.

In terms of hive power in the hive community, it gives you more influence in the hive community and helps for building up resource credits. For newbies, without resource credits, there is no possibility 0f you posting or commenting on a post. Hive power also gives your vote value, making it meaningful when upvoting a post or downvoting a post.

Having power isn't a bad thing but depends on who has it and how it's been used or controlled. With power, the life of another man can be in the hands of someone who has it.

It's intoxicating and can be a sharp or blunt sword depending on how it is used. Either for justice, vengeance or to help someone in need of it.
