People, very strange creatures who, in the beginning, destroy something as well, then, they regret it and call the animals that have disappeared from our planet as fossil species.
Such was the fate of a rodent called Hutia (Geocapromys colombianus), which we see on a postage stamp with a face value of 20 Cuban centavos from the Prehistoric Animals series of postage stamps issued on the island of Cuba in 1982.
It is believed that this animal lived only on the island of Cuba, in view of the fact that its remains were found only there, and the reason for the extinction was ship rats, which simply devoured the entire population of Geocapromys colombianus.
Sea voyages not only spread new species of animals across the planet, as was the case with the mongooses, which from India came to Jamaica and devoured all the snakes, but also destroyed the indigenous species of animals.
But the Cuban authorities were able to benefit from the disappearance of Geocapromys colombianus by printing 450,000 copies of this postage stamp, the economic benefit is evident.
