If you have Windows 10 its not that easy, unfortunatly. It defends itself with claws and teeth from having the update function disabled. I've tried all sorts of things, but it keeps repairing itself. I must have had a thousand useless updates so far, that only create problems and fill the HDD. And performance has not improved the slightest bit.

Damn Windows lol! All their updates seem to do is just wreck instruments! I'll be learning my lessons though, back everything up on a regular basis!
Well, the update didn't shoot my entire PC down yet. But its just annoying because its completely useless. It doesn't run faster or better than on day one, after perhaps 50 or so updates. And a couple of times I had to install the WLan driver again, because it had vanished after the update. But Microsoft is going on my nerves for 30 years now, ever since Windows 3.1 came out. I would not have grey hair without them... :)
Haha, I think we must have had the same experience except that update which wrecked the WLAN driver totally destroyed my PC and gave it the BSOD! Lol, repping the Windows hair, love it!
