I miss the life I'm yet to have

"What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t even happened yet"Anne Frank

About a week ago, one of the therapists whose work I track closely answered the question on how he writes his vision for the starting year. I like to believe that any day is good enough to do something like that and that it isn't really necessary to wait for January 1st to set goals and dreams. But of course, every new beginning comes with a high load of energy that we should make the most out of. I'm not one to write down New Year's resolutions, but I sure like being prepared, and the idea that said therapist mentioned highly resonated with me. It might be interesting for you to incorporate it into your life and so I wish to share it with you.

By the moment the therapist answered this question, he was on a plane, about to touch down and minutes away from seeing the love of his life. The energy contained in his answer reached my heart and made me feel hopeful and centered. He shared that, when writing his vision for the starting year, he does so as if it was already December 31st and he was reflecting on how the year went. It would be as if you were placing an order into the universe, with as much specificity as possible. I know we all have different backgrounds and unique life experiences. Still, I'm sure there's a couple of things we wish for and would love to see come true, and we can write them down as if they have already happened to us.

As for me, I work a lot better when I have clear, specific goals in mind, and if you throw in a deadline, even better. For the sake of privateness, I won't be adding too much detail, but I'd like to share with you some of the accomplishments I want to be able to cross off my list in 363 days from now. They can be summarized in one action, improving my health. Whether it is physical, mental, or emotional, health is one thing we can't strive without, and I intend on doing my best to feel better, with limited resources and all. There's always something we can do, we just have to be willing to take the step. Without further ado, here's my list.

By the time this year ends, I wish to be able to say that:

  • I was present.
  • I laughed and smiled more.
  • I loved with all my heart and was loved too, in a healthy, honest, and respectful manner.
  • I nourished and protected my inner child, whose presence is acknowledged and appreciated.
  • I did what it took to honor my mental health.
  • I found time every day to work on my physical health, both nutrition and exercise-wise.
  • I was mindful of harmful or self-limiting thoughts and behaviors, allowed them to show up, and then let them go without holding to their lies.
  • I respected the gift that is my intuition and learned how to listen to it without missing out on life.
  • I made the effort of communicating better, first with myself, and then to others, particularly saying “yes” or “no” only when I really mean it.
  • I stepped out from any toxic cycles with other people I was already in and avoided falling into new ones.
  • I embraced change and chaos and made my successful responses to them a part of my toolkit.
  • I worked on discovering and setting my boundaries, and I informed them so they would be respected.
  • I made the most of what I came to have.
  • I traveled and got in touch with new environments and cultural settings.
  • I found time every day to write, paint, sing, and dance, just for the sake of it.
  • I let go of any attachments to what I know isn’t for me.
  • I allowed myself to shine.
  • I accepted myself.

The intentions are out there now, with as much detail as possible (not everything is included here). I allow myself to dream and to hope for the best, and I'm willing to put in the work. One small action at a time.

Best wishes for you, who are reading this, and for your loved ones as well.

This is a really nice list of goals and it's great you have it. I can see some are very well thought over and achievable and I like that there's so much here that you can affect within yourself and not have to rely on others. A very legit list.

Hi Galen! Thank you for your kind words.

there's so much here that you can affect within yourself and not have to rely on others

Yes, given the state of the world, I prefer to focus on what I can do for myself without having to rely much on the conditions I'm in. That way I can adapt better to what's yet to come and I don't know.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my post and to further connect!

I am a shield-maiden. I wear a helmet and ride to war with warrior kings. I must support them, and I am not averse to fighting.

Skol!

Such a nice intro picture with a well thought out list of targets for the year. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to also think about my targets for this year 😀

Hi there! Yes, I have a list of goals, and a list of targets too... ;) Just kidding! Hahaha

Thank you for your kind words, and yes, starting the year with clear objectives is always good, so if you do that, you're closer to achieving what you wish for.

I have to mull this over. I do tend to work backwards from things. Setting a goal and then working backwards for how I will accomplish and at what intervals and steps. I hadn't thought about manifesting as if it was already done. Tha I you for giving new perspectives to think through.

Your list sounds like a really good way to work on yourself, healthy and amazing version of you.

I know right? It's an interesting point of view. I'm applying it daily and on a weekly basis too, to see how it goes. It's been working great for me. Of course, I'm embracing chaos as well, and accepting things as they come. It's good to be able to adapt ourselves to the situations.

Thank you! I appreciate your kind words.
