Tribute to the kid I was

“You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.”Robin Williams

Years and years ago, a girl like many others, as unique as many others, was born. Pushed into the world to live yet another life, to learn yet another lesson. The mother used to tell her "your kindness is your power", and the girl knew she had to figure out what that meant. One way or another.

From a very young age, I realized that life wasn't meant to be easy. Everything appeared to be a hurtful contradiction; every day a swarm of confusing events that I didn't know how to process. My earliest memory, of which a wrote a poem about many moons ago, is being in a crib, in the dark, watching a bat hanging over me. Sounds quite metaphorical, doesn't it?

I remember being a very difficult child to handle; restless, inquiring, needy. My world changed when I learned how to read, it went silent on the outside, and I could finally concentrate my energy on just one activity at once. My mind started building the universe I now inhabit, inside of my mind; my very own landscapes, castles of memories, friends. And then, one day, I wrote.

Among other reasons, I think I wrote to give meaning to a pain and a longing I didn't recognize as my own, it shouldn't be, I thought, I was just a little kid. I tried to love and be loved, but that came with bruises on my body, bleeding noses, nightmares. It took me forever to unlearn what my first years of life taught me about life.

Below, I'll show you some poems I wrote when I was six years old. I mentioned them on this previous post, where I talked about my hobbies and what they mean to me. These poems are the ramblings of a child that remembered previous lives, perhaps. I don't think I can explain where I got the ideas from. They're the product of an overactive imagination, that's for sure.

I'm certain that every moment I've lived has led me to this particular moment, which I'm grateful for. Every step, every decision taken. I look at the words of this child and I wish I could embrace her, tell her everything would be fine, and that it was okay to remain herself even if she didn't understand it.

I will translate the poems for you, in a literal sense, and I hope you find value in them for what they mean. On a lighter note, I noticed that some verses rhyme both in Spanish and in English. How cool is that? Also, I was just six, so I wasn't very creative with the titles. It's okay, you can have a laugh at that!

The heart

The heart is unpredictable
and sometimes very sensitive
you have to treat it cautiously
carefully
or else
it breaks

2.jpg

Two dancers

Two dancers
waltzing on space
a space filled
with flowers, stars, and kisses

Love

Love is inconstant
sometimes it kills
sometimes it revives
it's the most beautiful thing
and the most dangerous too

4.jpg

For a kiss

For a kiss
one can go stiff
they taste like strawberries
with cherries

Footprints

A pair of footprints
in the light of the stars
just two pairs
our footprints

3.jpg

Whale

Whale
you always so full
so serene
and so alien
to your environment

Kisses

A kiss
two kisses
alone in the night
inside two strangers

I love them! These should be framed. As a mother, if I was reading those from my 5 hear old, I would be bursting with pride and shouting it from the rooftops. How creative! I love the kisses and the dancers. They all have meaning in there. Thank you for tagging me. Love can be kind and also dangerous. Oh man! I am still thinking about that one. It is so true!!!!

Hi Becca! Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed reading these childish ramblings. I always marvel at what my little mind could craft back then, and I laugh. They're quite funny. My favorites are Kisses and Love.

This one struck a chord with me:

**Love **
Love is inconstant
sometimes it kills
sometimes it revives
it's the most beautiful thing
and the most dangerous too

So true. Thanks for sharing with the rest of the community!

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read and to leave a comment. I appreciate that. I'm glad the words of my childish, younger self resonated with you. Yeah, Love is one of my favorites, along with Kisses.

These are so nice, all of them, but I think I like Love and Kisses the best. All good though.

You know, it made me think about me as a six year old. I think the most amazing thing I did was swallow the little yellow head of a Lego man. I certainly wasn't making poetry.

I like this post.

Hmm, I think let's just assume I like all of your posts ok? 😊

(Edited)

Oh, I did some other brilliant stuff too, like hitting my 2yo brother in the head with a yellow plastic bag. Just because. 😅

The inner workings of a child's mind! Truly something to admire.

I also remember one time I tried to prove that I could fit through the gap between the bars of a gate... And my head got stuck.

I'm glad you enjoyed this post! Those two poems are my favorite too.

Edit: the autocorrect tried to save me from embarrassment, it was BAT, not BAG! Hahahaha a plastic yellow bat 🤦🏽‍♀️

You nutbag...But I hail you for your awesome head through bars attempt. It would have been something to see. Thanks for the laugh.

And yep, those ones...The poems...Were legit.

It was way passed my bedtime when I saw this post last night. That Robin Williams quote made me chuckle. I loved his effortless humour and he was one of my favourite actors.
He also shared my birth date.

I totally agree with that quote; something very few are willing to accept. I've embraced my madness that has helped to shape me and it has made me stronger:)
I don't get to read as many stories as I'd love to on Hive, but I've enjoyed the ones I've read from you:)

Hello there! Thank you for your words of appreciation, I'm glad you've enjoyed reading my works.

It's good to see that you've done the task of embracing yourself as a whole, madness and all. Kudos to you for that! And yes, Robin Williams was an admirable actor and a very valuable human. I wish we hadn't lost his presence in the world the way we did.
