What Search options do we have on Hive blockchain?

avatar
Search capabilities on a content-based blockchain like Hive is a basic functionality as there is much value encapsulated in it and users need to be able to find fast and pretty exact what they are looking for. And on top of that using the search capabilities someone could find if somebody else posted on a specific subject to avoid duplicates or posts that addressed one problem or the other. Or simply use it for research to identify whatever you need or remember a reference to something useful that you once read. So let's see what search options we have on Hive blockchain.

Hivesearcher is the prime dedicated search engine on the Hive blockchain. With a clean user interface, you can search fast using specific keywords. Once results are retrieved you can sort them by Relevance, Popularity or Most Recent. A must-to-use tool with basic search features on the Hive blockchain.

Ecency is an entire frontend for Hive blockchain which also has a Search functionality embedded within. Actually, I believe it uses the Hivesearcher engine and simply embeds it within the site. On top of that, I like this frontend as you are awarded Points for being active using it and you can use those to boost up posts with HIVE upvotes.

Google as the most used search engine in the world indexes all the content created on the Hive blockchain. Thus it makes it also a good tool to search for specific keywords and use specific terms to localize the search. You can simply search something like "PolyCUB" and add keyword as "site:leofinance.io" and you can find posts on a specific Hive frontend. Replace the site with something else to expand the results.

Search still represents a challenge to retrieve fast and using additional filters on Hive blockchain. Leo Finance expressed the intention to implement a search engine fulfilling this demand and we quite need some refinements on that. Still, we have quite few options until new solutions will come to market.

For search engines, I prefer to use Pre-search because I at least get some tokens back. Although it might take years to get enough tokens to actually withdraw.

Yeah, I gave up on PreSearch as they have high withdrawal policies, not user-friendly.

I was actually looking to see if anyone else would suggest the library. I like to use it while factoring either HP users or Hive Rep users as this allows me to find posts from either people wanting more information or people who supposedly have excellent grasps of information. (these aren't necessarily true but the library does limit what I am looking at in both cases.)

For basic searching though I use eccency.

I rarely search for anything on Hive, there's so much new stuff that I don't feel the need for searching for anything. I would love if we would have some advanced searching tool where you would out in some tags and it would find you related posts. I sometimes want to quote some of my old posts, but forget the titles...

That is a good idea. We need a good search base functionality and we can different parameters to filter upon (and these parameters be specific to the way Hive stores the info in DB and identify the elements).

I didn't know Hivesearcher so I'll have to check that out. I always hated searching for stuff on Hive applications. Never found one with a good user experience so I always ended up using a general-purpose search engine such as Brave, Pre-Search or even Google

Search is still a pain on the blockchain. I usually bookmark the articles that I find interesting, or save them as favourites in peakd.

Thanks for the info @behiver. Didn't know about hivesearcher. I mostly use google. Articles that are on the top of google search, I try to study them to see what they are doing to rank so high for certain keywords. Lately I have found that NFTs is such a trending topic, so I have been writing about them frequently. ✌️
