Horrible weather for crypto

The Tornado cash situation is one of many situations that highlight how the "establishment" views the crypto community. At best, they think we're just all part of a global Ponzi scheme and at worst, well, we're basically Alexey Pertsev.

You see, right now, Alexey Pertsev is facing the potential of jail time in the Netherlands for "masterminding" an open source code that bad actors used to launder money.

Now I'm not saying I condone money laundering but if I create a software for a good purpose and someone else uses it for something devious, how's it my fault? That would be like arresting the cavemen that invented sharp objects because people commit crimes with knives.

The story continues that even the wife of Alexey Pertsev, has been denied access to her husband. Speaking to Cointelegraph, she said;

“He’s kept in prison as if he were a dangerous criminal". She continued that "It is very unexpected for me that a person can be arrested for writing open source code."

This unfortunate event is just one of many instances where the crypto community is a victim of this level of disreputable treatment. It is a subtle attack on the open source community, and I bet a lot of devs will be worried.

The "Man" doesn't like you

In some way, the crypto industry is a middle finger to the establishment and for that reason, they don't like you. Crypto offers anonymity, privacy features and a host of tools that the legacy market can't track, making hodlers somewhat impervious to their trifling.

The establishment will, in turn, always seek out ways to "punish" crypto holders and traders. They know now that they can't completely ban the movement, so they might as well antagonist it.

You see it all the time, sometimes more blatantly than others. It will be in the way crypto is taxed, the way law enforcement treats you and many other obvious rules put in place.

Even in the most "crypto-friendly" climes, there is still some level of stigmatisation. It is the reason why crypto holders tend to be more private and secretive in their dealings.

In summary

The events surrounding the Tornado cash saga are a rather fascinating one. It highlights how even developing an open-source code could land you in hot water.

Concurrently, growing a community and projects aimed at creating value could also get you into trouble. You really have to keep your head on the swivel out there because they're after you.

If countries in Europe where I have often thought crypto was accepted can treat a dev like this, then there's really no hope for us in this part of the world. In any case, we will keep our head down, continue stacking and keep hoping for the best in the midst of the chaos.

To the outsiders looking in, this kind of news from the establishment portrays a false and presumably bad image of the crypto space in general.

But on the flip side, it's a strong force. The establishment wouldn't attack or go after something that's insignificant.

@belemo

Just like with Ross, with Geohot, with Kevin Mitnick, with Chelsea Manning, Julian Assange and Edward Snowden - The glows can never allow Humanity tools that would help them achieve freedom over the Beast System.

America is the most sinful and most evil collection of Humans and Weapons this planet has ever known. Why the world bases its existence off of us....well, the evil runs deep.

I mean, I get that there are issues in America but I shit you not when I say that you guys are NOT nearly as bad as the countries in my region.

Africa is the way it is because of the Way the West wants it to remain.

Blacks in the West get primetime TV coverage, political careers, status and clout. Blacks in Africa are kept poor because the West enslaves them for coltan and other minerals for our stupid phones and electronics. We pretend in the West that we are post colonizer but we (and China) do a great job at abusing Africans 600 years later still. I think, personally, it's really fucked up how Africans are forced to live while the West virtue signals that it cares about Black skin when it fucking uses it as both a virtue shield AND a slave source.

This is an easy cop out for Africans. The leaders here are not taking responsibility for their society and are constantly acting in corrupt ways, committing war crimes with the military that's suppose to protect the citizens and being dickheads.

I know that there are neocolonialistic issues pervading Africa but the root of the problem is in the very fact that we as a people are not ready to break free and be the best version of ourselves.

I speak as a Nigerian and I tell you this that the reason things are bad in this country is not because of colonisers, it is because the people aren't ready to do things right. THis cuts across the population.

I still don't understand why devs don't want to stay anonymous. They are literally building the antithesis of the legacy financial system and are direct competitors. What do they think happens when they overstep?

Interesting times indeed but this storm probably won't last long.

I continue to be amazed at how uncivilized we really are, and how money talks, no matter where you are. Those of us in crypto see this unjustice for what it is, but those on the outside just think we are all shady internet thieves..
