Splinterlands roadmap Speculation: SPS, Land and Packs

Splinterlands is consistently the most played blockchain game in the world. In fact, based on the number of transactions in the game, it is one of the most used Dapps as a whole.

The game is constantly working on developments, and sometimes I wonder if the team actually ever sleeps. I mean, for a project that has experienced immense success, you'd think they'd take a breather from time to time but nope, not these guys.

Anyway, I saw this tweet from the official Splinterlands account with a summary of upcoming developments. This roadmap highlighted incoming developments that paint an interesting picture for the coming months.

The priorities

For starters, we know that there's going to be a lot of development related to SPS token. In fact, by the end of the year, we should have SPS governance, validaors and all that community voting stuff fully setup.

Splinterlands generally dishes out the good stuff, so you just know that the community will love future developments in SPS token. Which could, in fact, translate to a minor pump.

At the time of writing, roughly 52% of the total supply of SPS token is staked. This is at a time when staking doesn't even offer any governance privilege.

What I'm saying in essence is that in the latter months to come, there'll be even more SPS tokens being staked This will invariably lock up a decent chunk of the supply, potentially increasing the demand for the token.

On top of that, the release of rift watchers is fascinating because, the packs will be bought with SPS tokens, if I'm not mistaken. If I'm not mistaken, the SPS used to buy this edition of packs will all be burned.

In any case, you will want to accumulate SPS tokens now, so the sensible thing to do is to leave your tokens staked to farm more SPS tokens.

I made a tough decision to sell all my NFTs in the game and that has been going on in the background. This means my SPS airdrop will be affected by this situation.

Although, prior to selling all my monsters, I made the decision to sell all my 400K DEC for SPS tokens. Word from the recent townhall meeting further supports my rationale for selling all my DEC tokens because the value is bound for the original peg of 1K DEC per $1.

The tokens I bought should cover the period when my SPS airdrop will be fewer. I also intend to stake most of the SPS I receive, while reinvesting a bit to slowly buy back monsters.

Truth be told, I wish there was a way I could take a loan with my SPlinterlands monsters as collateral. I'd have just thrown the loaned funds into one of the high APR farming pools in Polycub.

Anyway, I'll still build my way back into the game and SPS is going to play a major role in achieving it.

More to come

There has been a lot of talk about when land will be a thing in Splinterlands. According to the roadmap, we'll be seeing some development on that front by the end of the year.

There will be some updates in phase 1 but I think things will start coming to life when phase 2 comes around. I also think that the new collection of monsters, including Rebellion, will play a major role in the land phase.

I suspect the presale of the rebellion collection could require investors to own at least 1 plot of land or something. Meaning, it could end up being a very exclusive collection. This could, in turn, boost the price of land.

When things start unfolding, I also think guilds will be able to buy land and share resources between players. I also think that your guild level will be a huge factor in determining the value of resources you can access.

Note that I'm only speculating what could come. Things will most likely be different when we get closer to the various launch dates.

In any case, the most important thing is that there's progress going on in the background. The game will constantly be developed and sometime this year, SPS stakers will play a role in further developments.

It is an exciting time for Splinterlands investors, and anybody with a SPlinterlands asset should be pleased with the developments on the way.

if I understand correctly you have sold the DEC for SPS tokens. It's a move I hadn't thought of, but it might be a nice idea. I believe that the SPS will have more and more fields of use

Are you getting back into LAND?

If you do, how much SPS do you think you'll need per plot to service it?

I'm not sure I will tbh. I'm just going to wait and see if my guild will organize something.
