Trying to get fit again

So after falling off a few times in the past, I'm back in the fitness horse again. Back in Kaduna, I stopped working out because running became boring and it started to feel redundant.

Now in Bayelsa for the holiday season, I'm trying to push myself to do a bit more than I use to. This means that I'm going to experience even more pain than I'm used to.

Last night was the worse in a long time, as I found myself in so much pain that I couldn't sleep. I was staring into blank space in the night and to make matters worst, my phone battery died.

The pain was mostly in my shoulder and groin region. I did some bench presses with 60KG weights and it took it's toll on me.

I carried the weight properly and paid attention to my form and all that. I'm just feeling the strain of pushing my arms to new limit after a long layoff from working out. I decided not to take pain killers because I want the adjustment process to be totally natural.

I also did five sets of curls, five sets of squats and a few other five sets of things while in the gym. Prior to all the weight carrying, I did two laps around the stadium. I think I'll increase it to three laps today.

My body's still in pain but it is not as bad as last night. I'm adjusting to it and will have to keep going, despite the pain until the pain stops. I estimate that it will take roughly two weeks to get over the discomfort.

Great that you back on the horse. But take it easy.. I have injured nyseswlf this way before. You need proper rest and don't overload. The recommended load increase is 1.5 every week. So even though you have muscle memory. You need to give your body some time to get used to it. You don't need to be hardcore everyday at the beginning. Do lighter in between. And also try some l-glutamine after workouts. Will help with muscle recovery and you won't feel as sore.

Enjoy and good luck. I'm on the horse myself. Picked up all my kilos I lost this year! But I'm. More motivated than ever!

Same here. I'll go easier today and just try to get use to it. I'll look out for the i-glutamine thing, I've never taken suppliments before but will give it a shot.

L-glutamine! I'm also not a big fan of supplements - but I promise this makes a huge difference. you still might feel a bit sore - but not completely broken! Especially if you giving your body a hard time :)

Is it a supplement found in specific types of food or do I get it as a stand alone product?

Generally protein rich foods like beans and chicken. But the amount yuu need speed up recovery can't be gained from eating natural portions. Especially if you pushing your body hard to unnatural limits. Best to use it in its pure form.

Okay I'll look it up at a supermarket tomorrow. They have a pharmacy section that I can just get stuff like this from.

You are likely to have these pains because you stopped exercising for a while. And it is good and advisable not to take pain killer but let the pains go away naturally.
It's nice that you are back to your gyming and exercise routine
