For people whose water is on, especially if it is down to trickle, gather as much water as you can in pots, jugs, bottles etc. Before we lost ours completely the water had come down to a trickle and the stores are mostly all sold out of water. Gather as much water as you can while you can. If you don't need it you don't need it but if you do, then you will be happy you put some aside. Water is necessary to drink, cook, do dishes etc. If your water is down to a trickle I also suggest boiling it before using it for the above activities. We were prepared. When the the rest of town had no water we had some to spare. If you are completely out of water gonoutsise and gather snow with items mentioned before. U can use a ladle or cup to scoop. Filter it using a coffee filter, screen. Cheesecloth etc. Then boil and it's safe to drink. If you want flush your toilet then gather snow and get at least 1.5 gallons melted in a pot or bucket. Dump it all all at once in the toilet and it will flush. Cannot use a gallon jug dod this method it will not #texaswinterstorm2021
There seems to be an attitude of entitlement when it comes to water, power and septic. Living these last five years off-grid I have learned that these are things that we need to work and prepare, they don't just come automatically. As well as food. We should learn that food doesn't just come from the grocery store, it takes many hands and the help of Mother Nature to bring food to our tables. The more self-reliant and the more community we are a part of the more secure we will be in getting our needs met.
yes. We were prepared for the water to be out. Had plenty of it. I was filling up jugs one day and a neighbor just thought I was crazy and I told him to do the same. This was months ago. I told him to be prepared in case the water ever goes out. his reply was classic "Oh I don't think we will ever be without water. here it was off for 48 hrs. we had water when others didn't. We also keep a good supply of food on hand. not as much as some people, but a lot more than others as well.
