Rising Star - Is there a problem?

RSG large logo.png

I have been playing the Rising Star Game for a few months now, and I have discovered several pearls of information along the way.

I have decided to start writing about my experience at RSG.

animated divider.gif

Is Rising Star Game in trouble?

First off, I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I have noticed a few things while playing RSG that has concerned me a bit.

RSG 1 mil card.png

You have probably heard by now that RSG has put the Millionaire card on hold.

No new cards are being issued. If you already had a card or were very close then you do not lose the opportunity to get the card.

The Millionaire Mission is still active for those who have the Millionaire card

animated divider.gif

The next detail that I noticed only affects the top 50 players, but it has been a significant change to the rewards system.

RSG Rankings.png

The new daily rewards pool is 10 swap.Hive

I am not totally sure what it was before the change but it was definitely
much higher.

The top-ranked players were earning a couple of swap.Hive daily, and now it is a fraction of the reward.

I understand that this does not affect most of us, but it did send up a red flag for me.

animated divider.gif
Next, I have noticed significantly slower load times and a lot more server errors

RSG Server Error.png
Now, I understand that servers are expensive and designers do not come cheap.

My concern is the future of Rising Star Game.

I am still playing and promoting the game and buying packs when I can. I enjoy the game and do not anticipate discontinuing playing the game.

I have a few concerns related to what I have just mentioned.

This is in no way intended to bash the game, I am just sharing what I have seen and wonder if anyone else is concerned.

Thanks for letting me vent a bit.

If I have confused you or failed to explain something, please make a note in the comments.

Please remember that when making purchases with Starbits, the Starbits need to be in your Hive Engine and not in the game.

Moving your Starbits from the game to your Hive Engine wallet is simple. You just move your cursor over your Starbits total on the right upper side, and you will get a dropdown list that starts with "Withdraw/Deposit."

Click the Withdraw/deposit tab, and you will see your choices for moving Starbits to your Hive Engine wallet.

The information in this post is my opinion and is correct to the best of my knowledge. There are always other options to consider. Be sure to D.Y.O.R

Bad tokenomics will do that to a game. The thing is I'm sure there's been so many people stacking so much star bits that the final correction we are seeing now to stop abuse is going to take a long while to recover the platform again. Games like these need to figure out ways to generate revenue and if it's a few ads here and there to keep the servers running then so be it. Or a 5% fee on trading of NFTs etc then so be it. The fact is these games (other than splinterlands) are not factoring this in and just expect it to hold value. That's not the way things work.

I totally agree with you on ads and fees. Adding these to create revenue would not only save the game but would probably make it grow and reach new players and hopefully attract them outside Hive also.

I'm playing Rollercoin and I'm quite used to ads since they are not pop-ups.

I have been thinking about your suggestion, @bitcoinflood.

I think that RSG should consider selling banner ads.
We tend to be accustomed to seeing banner ads on most sites we visit.
Apps like Vimm have ads, and that does not seem to be a problem for anyone.

Great idea!
Now if we can make sure the right people see this, lol

The old rewards were 50 SWAP.HIVE per day. It was lowered after a lively community discussion a few weeks ago.

The nice thing about RSG is that it is 'funded' chiefly through the devs' desire to have a cool retirement project, so it can weather ups and downs more easily than a game that relies on self-sustainability. The tradeoff is in the wrinkles, pacing, and learning curves—as @bitcoinflood mentioned, the STARBITS tokenomics are not ideal. Also, mistakes were made in the beginning with things like the XP Boost cards.

These aren't the only missteps RSG has made, and they likely won't be the last. But the devs and community learn with each one!

RSG's core focus right now is in giving more utility to STARPRO, which has maintained a pretty healthy price and has (hopefully) better tokenomics. The bear market has definitely slowed the game down, but it'll only be "in trouble" if the devs stop having fun building it (or for some reason can't build it any more). I don't think there's a huge risk of that happening :)

you have a point on the XP Boost card, however without them, grinding through the levels, especially after zone 1, is a heck of a problem without them. If the XP Boost cards were to be replaced, the game would need to better scale XP rewards as players level increases, maybe this could be a use for Income Modifier, where it acts a small XP boost similar to instrument luck for skill increases from music lessons. If Jux were to do that, and then lesson the impact of XP Boost cards without removing them, that would help the game feel less grindy, and encourage more players to stick with it for the long haul.

It's good to hear how players perceive the levelling up because I haven't started from the beginning for years. Quite an interesting idea regarding IM. Julie and I will discuss it and see if it is something we could do.

How interesting, I never used the XP boost cards, just grinded away..

I noticed the Millionaire Card suspension but since I was and still am so far off from being able to get it I am not concerned. It is good that people who are eligible and already have the card can use it.
You didn't come across as bashing at all.
Just making observations.
I like the game and will keep playing it.

@jfuji has done a good job of explaining why we are a bit different than other games but let me elaborate and hopefully put your fears to rest.

Rising Star was a Covid lockdown project for my wife and I. My vision was to try and create a game that could help people on low incomes by making it free to play but make it fun enough to encourage more affluent players to spend some of their crypto. Obviously it is almost impossible to create a profitable business using this model but our motivation is not to make money. If it was we would have already closed down the game.

The good news is that we did actually make money during the bull market but the bad news is that now we are in a bear market hardly anyone is spending any new money in the game.

So how are we going to survive?

Well as I said we are not here to make money so we have reinvested most of the profits from to bull market in various schemes, including HBD savings, to generate a sustainable income that we can use to fund everything.
The income is not enough however to cover the reward pool so we had to reduce that.

We now have enough regular income to cover our base costs and that income will slowly grow over time to cover more and more areas.

Tokenomics

Rising Star is an experiment and like any experiment things go wrong and you learn from that. Our biggest mistake was making STARBITS an inflationary token. However we came up with a way to fix this and that is the STARPRO token which has a fixed supply (a maximum of 100 a day plus 20 to the game). New STARPRO can only be minted by burning STARBITS in Music Promoter. The lower the STARBITS price goes in relation to STARPRO the more that has to be burned.

Every new feature that we have added to the game over the last six months or so and going forward requires STARPRO either directly or indirectly. As our residual income mentioned above rises we will also be buying back more and more STARPRO.

In Conclusion

I hope this has helped to put your mind at rest and you believe in our plans moving forward. We believe that with everything we have learned in the first two and a half years of the game and the changes we have made along with new features such as "Raves" we will actually be in an even stronger position going into the next bull market whether that is next year or the year after. We have been through a crypto bear market before so we know they don't last forever!

Thanks again for your post and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Jux.

P.S. We tried ads and they made us just about enough to keep the lights on! :P

P.P.S. You should pop along to our Discord server as we are always having conversations about the future of the game. It's just a lot easier to chat in real time there.

Thanks, Jux

I really appreciate the feedback.
I am sure that this was all discussed on Discord, but it is hard to keep up on all the Discord servers.

I am a big fan of the game, and I just wanted to be sure that things are heading in the right direction.

My plan moving forward is to continue playing and promoting the game and writing posts that I feel might help someone.

They also put out a HDF project that I don't know if it got funded. I voted for it but didn't watch it closely. I have generally started rolling Starbits back into 12 pack bundles. Occasionally buying the uniques that are at a reasonable price. After my first couple of 30.00 pack buys I haven't invested too much into the game. Just lots of daily time. The game has it about right for a time sync. Not too much need to push buttons but enough to keep you engaged.

Hehehe nice post! I think your concerns are very naive, nothing truly concerning really... Rising Star is an awesome game and has a future with great economics, maybe the best in the crypto space in this bear market, i still think the token is too high for example, so economics are not an issue for me, something that concerns everyone, or even the future, in the next bull market we are going to see a very good and healthy tokenomics for Rising Star, all the new games, the STARPRO and how it works, (I think they should offer some rewards in starpro too) This is my personal experience: Well i was, WAS, deeply in love with Rising Star, after i learned how @risingstargame JUX designed it to be played, it cost me a year to learn this hard lesson, its simple, get the more fans and instruments you can to earn the more starbits you can, and nothing else matters. Yep thats the truth and it was a very sad moment for me. Im a huge fan of collecting, my main purpose of playing Rising Star was collecting their NFTs, i collected 800+ Uniques, i remember celebrating after getting a new card i didnt had for 50$ Or collecting all epics (yep i was a fool) I promoted the game for collectors, (YOU CAN STILL COLLECT) But the issue is that you are not going to be rewarded from the game for that, you are not gonna be recognized from the game for that and thats the type of users the game should seek and promote, Jux has so much socialist ideas he wants to do everything for everyone without recognizing the real MVPS, the ones that collect, you can see any other game in any blockchain, lets take for example the king of hive splinterlands how they recognize the players with olders nfts for example... I also see there is a lack of creating a sense of ownership inside the community, there is not enough recognition to the players. The last thing that happened that made me sold my useless unique cards and stop worrying about the game was that JUX took off the 50 hive rewards to the top 100 without a plan B he could easily reward the top 100 in other ways without economics involved, giving away packs for example, or creating some sort of special cards only for the top 100 to flex, something like that, i get that we are in a bear market and those 50 hive should have dissapeared long ago, but he show that he truly didnt care about the top 100, the ones that invest and enjoy the game more than the rest... Some people can say .....BuT yOU CaN StiLL CoLeCT wHaT iS StOPiNg yOu... YES! I can still collect! But its more fun whe you get recognized for that and why not, watching your assets get more value because they are unique and special! But if the owner of the game doesnt care about that MEHHH... And im doing the same thing and having fun collecting in other projects so i already filled that void... I remember Flexing to people that i have a Skater, or a full collection of epics! ANd they were like, so? I have 300k more fans than you! In conclusion, Rising Star became another game that you just click, no more fun for me atleast, i also shared all this concerns to EVERYONE im tired of discussing all this in their discord server for example, but anyway im just a guy the game was not meant for me is not their fault and is just my personal experience most people are having fun the way it is... BTW thanks for buying tons of records from me you really saved me with that one, i used the funds to buy 30k Fans and now i reached 500k fans and 300k luck!!! Im happy for that! I wish Rising Star The best! So i can get to 1 million fans, 500k Orchestra and collect more nfts elsewhere! LONG LIVE RISING STAR!

Thank you for your support.

You seem to have missed the details I have been sharing about Raves. We had many conversations in the past about people wanting more utility for their collections and we listened and designed a random reward into Raves.

Screenshot 2022-11-02 at 10.59.11.png

The idea is that each Rave event will have a random requirement for a bonus.
So this might be "own a skater", "own an animated card", "own a robot band", etc.
The card combinations are almost endless but will reward collectors.

You can come and test Raves now and provide feedback as we have already made some changes based on player's ideas. Just go to the "raves-testing" channel in Discord and read the pinned posts.

Cheers,
Jux.
