The POWER of the VOTE!

The Power of the VOTE!

We all know the power of voting. Whether you are voting for your government officials or a post in HIVE. Voting is power that shows approval or disapproval of the intended subject.

Voting is very valuable in the HIVE world and nowhere more so than ListNerds. ListNerds has introduced a unique method of “Proof of Mail” where mail is voted on to become verified based on content, appeal, and functionality.

One primary issue with the power of voting is that with great power comes great responsibility.

This responsibility is what I would like to focus on in this post.

Every regular mail that is sent through ListNerds needs to be validated for the author to receive their share of the rewards for the day. Validation occurs when there is a net score of 20+ upvotes on a message. Every downvote will decrease the net votes by 1.

I have read many opinions on how people vote on mails. Some people who don’t like marketing will downvote anything that is not a blog post whereas others will downvote any program that they do not like, regardless of the integrity or reputation of the business being advertised.

In my opinion, and this is just opinion, is that a mail that you open should be rated on appearance or neatness of the message, proper link function and overall feel for the message.
I do not feel that it should be a popularity contest or a place for vengeful retaliation. I generally will only downvote a mail if the text message is garbled, or all packed together making it hard to read. I will also downvote any mail where the link does not work.

I realize that we are all human and are prone to error, but ListNerds has several safeguards in place to allow you to double-check your links before publishing your mail

The vote is power. New members get limited power when they first begin. The greatest number of votes they will begin with is 4 votes with a voting power of 100. (approx. 25 voting power per vote).

As you use your votes and begin to earn CTP tokens, then your voting power increases. The more you vote, the more you can earn.

If you would like to have more voting power, then this is easily solved with a small investment of CTP tokens.

As of this writing, CXTP tokens cost 0.019 HIVE and HIVE is trading at just under $1 USD. For a small investment of $10 USD, you can buy HIVE and convert it to CTP tokens which will give you around 500 CTP tokens.

This will increase your vote power to 500 or 20 votes. Your voting power will renew at a rate of around 100 per day. This will provide you with a jump start on votes and earnings.

As you continue to accumulate more CTP tokens you will receive more voting power. And that $10 you spent? Well, you did not really spend it as you have invested and staked it into CTP token.

Agree or disagree with me, please let me know in the comments section. Thanks!

Until next time,
John Novak

I take it seriously as well @beststart and glad that someone with your experience is around to provide your Yoda-Ness.

I don't have any vengeance against any one. So, why do I need to downvote someone? I don't think I have downvoted anyone so far.

I still confused about the voting number and voting weight. From the dashboard,
00.png

But from the inbox
01.png

I have 2358 $CTP token staked.

Okay, @hafiz34. This is where it gets a little tricky. You have 2358 staked CTP so your voting weight is 2358 total. You will have approx 95 votes total. When you use votes, they replenish at a rate of 20% a day. It will take 5 days to totally replenish a depleted account. The dashboard number shows the amount of voting power you have in total but the inbox value shows what you have available to use.
I hope that helps and I did not make it more confusing.
The Whitepaper explains it a bit more thoroughly. You will have some CTP tokens heading your way. Thanks for the read and comment.

I have only downvoted an occasional page with a security issue. If I ever saw something pornographic or otherwise wicked, I would downvote that. But I upvote nearly everything as long as the author is making an honest effort to connect me with something of value to someone. Just because I would not play a game or buy a product does not mean I should downvote it.

Exactly @fiberfrau. I agree that upvoting is important since the marketer is making an effort. I have some CTP tokens heading your way. Thanks for the read and comment.

I'm not sure how voting or downvoting increase my "CTP Tokens" or Listnerds token rewards, but i get some every day.
Should i downvote scam looking mails ? If no one vote for them there is no use.
I think the report button is more useful.

I know this is all about email "marketing", but, frankly, I get tired of everybody trying to pitch their product/service at me. I don't want to read commercial after commercial and I don't think anyone else does either. Hey, I like to earn CTP Tokens as much as the next guy, but I think this is the reason that affiliate marketing gets such a bad reputation.

I downvote using the same criteria as you John. I upvote creativity and originality. I just don't vote for displaying a premade splash page. Thanks for the post John.

I don't have a lot of votes so I only use it to upvote people who promote blog posts 😄
I need to invest more in CTP Tokens because sometimes I have to wait a day or 2 to upvote everyone.

Hi @donpapy, Thanks for the read and comment. I appreciate it. I will send some CTP tokens to you soon. Yes, it is hard when you are first starting out when you only have 4 votes especially when there are so many quality emails being sent. Continue with what you are doing and as your STAKED CTP raises so will your votes.

Without a doubt, the power of voting is very important and it is a responsibility to exercise it. Personally I do not usually vote for any negative mail unless it is something serious, I think I have not voted negative yet. I tend to be more likely to upvote emails that then link to Hive and people I already trust.

I will admit that I am also spending votes on downvoting. On Hive, I probably have downvoted something only a few times. Can count it on 1 hand probably. My stake will not make a difference therefore it seems pointless to use it.

On Listnerds I look at 3 categories of emails: those that stand out and have made an effort to make the email look great OR have at least shared something that looks neat/is valuable according to my personal opinion and therefore I upvote them.

Then there's this middle category of those that I don't feel much when reading the email AND when I land on the website/page that the link sends me to. These I will not upvote but also not downvote. They are opened and deleted.

Last, there's a category that annoys me a lot: those that keep sending out the exact same email, without even changing the email text a tiny bit, and the same link every single time. Often I also land on something that looks horrible to me and where I'd never react by buying/subscribing anyway. Those I downvote.

I think sending out a similar or even the same email should be possible, but not constantly. And those that sent out the same stuff repeatedly without putting in a second of their effort don't deserve a share of the reward pool. In my opinion

Thankfully, I've been seeing more nice stuff to upvote in the past week or so, which is great! I see that everyone is making a true effort and the group of daily active users is growing. I'm glad to be part of it!

Forgot one important command: !1UP :)

Thanks for your input @thisismylife. This is what I was hoping for when I wrote the post. Getting input from other members as to what criteria they use to vote.

Oh you really didn't have to do that, but as I'm all about paying it forward, I will send them to a new team member of mine so that he has a few votes tomorrow when he starts opening mails.

I bet some people just downvote whatever they don't fancy, and upvote others by default, which is their choice but I think it's good to be aware of the fact that you have some power using your stake and can protect the pool from the emails that are not worthy according to you. I think that it can be a good motivation when people keep seeing downvotes and maybe start comparing it with the other content at some point, hoping they will then step up their game.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but we'll see.

This will help people understand how important is to vote, either up or down!

I do give preference to upvoting people sharing their blog posts because I believe it is the best way for your audience to get to know you! Another upvote would be for people who share their personalized lead capture pages, which tells me that they are building their own list! Other generic/affiliate links, if I see they took some time to write the email instead of using the premade ones, if well written I will consider upvoting!

However, if the email is all messed up and shows no sign of an improvement on the next ones, whichever the link, I will downvote and keep downvoting.

Scammy stuff is a straight Report!

Thank you for being Nerdy 🤓

I won't arbitrarily downvote an email. If I downvote it is usually because the link didn't work. I have alot of votes because I pulled 10K CTP over to ListNerds and staked it there. I am finally gettimg the hang of how List Nerds works. Voting is huge and I try to be responsible with that power.

Thanks, Lisa for the read and comment. It does make the process easier once you have staked CTP. But it is a serious responsibility that I feel some people take too lightly.

From what I have seen, staking less than 100 tokens doesn't increase your VP but it does fill up your current gauge. However after 100, it increases your maximum gauge from there onwards.

To me down voting with no explanation is a pointless exercise anyways, that will only be abused my mean vindictive people.
If someone downvotes someone
Awesome what did we learn?
Oh yeah nothing, so someone didin't like something (it is perception anyways) what only because it was not good content or cause possibly something else.
Just my opinion.
Great post John @beststart
