Three Tune Tuesday: 3 tracks that I liked this week

avatar

The Tuesdays seem to be coming and going quite quickly as @ablaze will probably know given the amount of music that man has to listen to. My three tunes this week are so different from each other that they are laughable but I will start off with a sing that is a quality force of nature of a song.

Les Fleurs - Minnie Riperton

It is called Les Fleur and you all know this one. Everyone knows it but noone knows who performed it. It is one of those songs that would be on an advert (I think it is actually) and it has a few different parts to it. Each part is excellent in its own right. It is a remake (of course it it, all the good ones are ) of a Minnie Riperton song back in the 70's. Personally I never heard of Minnie but by all accounts she was excellent. I am mad for different versions of the original so I decided to throw up the cover back during Covid that a group of artists performed in isolation.

Why is it that all these types of songs pass me by at the time of release. I never heard this one until last week. It's a really good one. Difficult to put in a genre. Probably the dreaded singer songwriter territory but very good non the less.

The Streets - Heaven For The Weather

Ah the streets, my guilty pleasure. I have always liked Brit rap so to speak and the Streets pretty much started it. Songs such as "You're fit but you know it" are great holiday tunes. Now I am the first one to say that the Streets are no Beatles but they do have a place in society.
Heaven for the weather is one such song that came into my life last week and I quite liked the whole idea of the song. I did always think myself that heaven might be a bit leftie and nicey nicey and that going to hell might be a bit more for me as Frank points out in the song. I wouldn't fancy the eternal pain however so I think I might have to bite my tongue being in heaven with the do gooders.

The streets were famous for having a song dry your eyes back in 2004 around the time of the world cup. It went to number one and became a national ballad in the UK. It was a pretty decent song and as usual from the Streets a good story. When England got knocked out of the world cup us comedians in Ireland decided to change it up a bit and do a comedy skit of Roy Keane ringing David Beckham to commiserat after missing a penalty for England in the world cup. It's awfully funny.

So a relatively short and sweet three tunes this week. See you all next week.

Think that is my new fave version of Dry your eyes, not heard that one of the streets before it makes a person a bit nostalgic to start with pirated material again cause you know it is fit. I am also adding the Augie March dude to the gang and hopefully, their other songs keep the vibe. Nice selection. !PIZZA !LOLZ

A nice eclectic trio this week auld stock, all very different and all enjoyable. I always enjoy loads of musicians having a lash of a song together, there is great power and a sense of collective in it that I like. One Crowded Hour is a great song and a new one to me, quite surprised to see so few youtube plays too, as it is a really nice song.

That first streets album was deadly, as it was so different, went down hill after that and saw them live at a festival once, and he/they were shite... Gift Grub with Keano was genius, probably Mario Rosenstock's best ever work, pure genius and out the day after the match!
