Three Tune Tuesday: Paul Simon . One of the Greats

Ever since I was a little lad I loved Paul Simon. Normally the more I listen to a track , the more I get sick of it and eventually I will end up not really liking the song anymore. The songs that I don't like at the start are the songs that grow on me and become my favorite songs.

You Can Call Me Al

The song "You can call me Al" is a song where I loved from the first time I have heard it and I still love it. I hear it at football matches, at concerts, on the radio. I probably heard that song more than any other song ever. But it is still top class. I just love the feel good nature of it. It just makes everybody feel happy and I think this is what music is all about. It is impossible to play on a guitar so you don't hear it being murdered by singer songwriters and the likes of myself. The lyrics are pretty fast and tough to get out as well. It rarely gets covered because nobody can do there version of it because the original will always be the best. So the only place you really hear it is in its original form. Some people ask me what is the best song ever and we can go down the lines of a few Beatles numbers such as A Day in The Life, Hey Jude. But I think this is up there with the best song ever. It is an anthem. The whole world knows it and it makes everybody feel good. So if this is not up there with one of the all time greats I do not know what is. Oh and they have Chevey Chase in the video. Whatever happened to that guy,

Diamonds On The Sole Of Her Feet

I love the interlude in this one and the beat throughout. Another feel good song drenched in the sounds of an African choir . It starts off with African lyrics and then half way through it changes into this other song that is a great summer tune. I learned the guitar tabular for the interlude and it sounds great but it is more comple-ma-cated that other songs. I am fascinated with guitar scales and scales such as an Arabian scale and Indian scale. One note can be the subtle difference between the two cultures. It's amazing.

The Obvious Child

This is not an obvious choice as you have to dig to find it but I heard this on the radio when I was 8 and searched for the name of it for years. Only until the dawn of Limewire and Napster was I able to locate the song. It was that or buy every Paul Simon record in the shops which was not an option. So I finally found the name. What I love about this one is the drum beat straight from the start. Again African themed. Great song.

Three great song there with a tropical vibe to them. I am mad about different cultural music. @blackdaisyft went to an Islamic festival a few months ago and the music was excellent. I love the difference in style between cultures. You know when a culture has hit a country when the cultural music of the immigrants goes main stream. London garage is one example and if anyone heard the French entry into the Eurovision this year, it was amazing. We can even see it in Ireland with rap taking hold. I think @ablaze had a few Irish rappers on his ttt recently.

So that's it from me this Three Tune Tuesday. Thanks to @ablaze who has come back from Munich and has been seen around Galway with a pair of Lederhosen and a large beer glass.

The guy in the picture is Blindboy Boatclub. Very intelligent guy. I think he is a qualified doctor. He has a book out of short stories and one of the stories in the book is the most chilling story I have ever read. It still gives me shudders.

Cool. I will have to check it out. I quite liked his gentlemen's evenings in Ibiza.

Short Story starts around the 54 minute mark. He gave a few sample stories back in his podcast when he released the book

I am fascinated with guitar scales and scales such as the Arabian scale and Indian scale.

I get you! Arabian scales are so beautiful 😊

Loved the tunes this week! I already knew the first one, but the other two were completely new to me. Very uplifting vibe to it 😁

@blackdaisyft went to an Islamic festival a few months ago and the music was excellent.

There will be another one in the same place next year! And I have every intention to go there again 😍

Ever since I was a little lad I loved Paul Simon.

Same here, I've always liked him and Graceland in particular is a great album.

But I think this is up there with the best song ever.

Hi praise indeed, but I hear what you are saying, regardless of how many times I've heard it never gets old and always puts a smile on my face.

Week 69 and I think that is the first Paul Simon song.... Sacre bleu!!
