It is true that we can be intrinsically and extrinsically motivated. I do feel like you tend to be more driven when you are more intrinsically motivated. External factors differ over time but when there is something motivating you from the inside, achieving the goal is always easier.

You're definitely right, external factors can be based on variables and these variables can mean that for example, we can't find it in ourselves to be happy or fulfilled unless some external factors come in place. Sometimes it can be good, but finding motivation externally Make it feels like sometimes we can't have control over our lives especially in things like choosing a career choice.
