Hongqi S9: Chinese-Italian Hypercar

What do you do when you want to be the best? You simply roll out with the best, Hongqi S9 waste no time to reckon with the best. “China in Italy” would be appropriate. Recall Hongqi H9 looking like a Rolls-Royce, BMW and Mercedes Maybach all in one. Well, this time Hongqi is a unique hypercar with its own exclusive look and retaining it’s signature red line on the bonnet.

First Automobile Works (FAW), China’s largest automotive manufacturer collaboration with Italian startup design company Silk EV to form Silk-FAW in creating the Hongqi S9 at Silk EV’s headquarters in Modena, Italy. It’s so interesting seeing China’s hypercar come out from Silk EV headquarters at Modena, same town as Maserati headquarters, 27 miles from Ferrari headquarters in Marcenello and Lamborghini’s headquarters close by at Sant’Agata, Italy. Clearly much inspiration for the Hongqi SO to make its mark. Hongqi mean red flag.

Hongqi S9 was first shown in 2019 Frankfort Motor show as a prototype and making its debit in April at Shanghai Auto Show. It carries under its good a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 880hp with 3 electric motors producing 520hp totalling 1400hp that sprints from 0-62 mph in 1.9 seconds reaching a top speed of 250 mph.

The headlight is integrated with air intake that allows air to cool its powertrain .
FAW employed Walter de Silva as designer of the Hongqi S9 whose work is known for design of Alfa Romeo, Audi, Volkswagen, Lamborghini Miura. Also bringing in ex-ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa as special advisor to the executive chairman and member of the senior advisory board and Roberto Fedeli, as new Chief technology officer, a former Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and BMW executive.
