Ruminating on Initiative Q

This is one of those unfortunate Monday's when not much happened over the weekend, so I really don't know what to post about. I take that back, I have stuff I can post about, but I am not sure it is enough to fill the full 500 word goal that I usually set for myself.

Some of you might be thinking, "well just don't post then". Which is a fair point, but there is just something in me that refuses to yield. I am pretty consistent about posting five days a week so barring a national holiday or actually taking a day off, I just can't bring my self to do it.

Now you are probably saying, "wait, this feels a lot like filler just so he can hit that 500 word goal he has". In fact, you would be right. You caught me!

It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission right?

Seriously though, this past weekend I was thinking about some of the old projects that people were excited about back in 2017/2018 when many of us were crypto noobs. Isn't it funny how most of those projects that we thought were going to be our big payday ended up not being that.

On the flip side, some of the projects that we didn't really give a second thought at the time ended up being pretty decent for us. Okay, maybe 1 out of 20 of them gave us a small return...

The key one that game to mind what a project called Initiative Q now known as "Quahl" I guess.

I jumped over to their website the other day and I was greeted with this frontpage.

I'll give you a minute to read through the couple of paragraphs they have up there.

You good?

I think my favorite part of the whole thing is "Our team is currently investigating possible ways to move forward in a way that will bring value to the community".

If that doesn't say we have no effing clue what we are doing then I don't know what does.

As was common a couple of years ago, projects were popping up right and left collecting contact information from users and then simply disappearing. This feels a lot like that sort of thing. They likely got their money selling a contact list to some digital marketer and called it a day.

I think my second favorite part of the whole thing would be this statement "we have concluded that a community of this size, with its current growth trajectory, isn't sufficient to launch a new currency."

IE, we don't have enough money to pay all of you greedy !@#!@#$ers that signed up.

I guess the fact they took time to post that on their website should be a sliver of hope that it wasn't a total rug pull. Additionally, the fact that all we have given them so far is data should be some consolation as well.

I know there are some other folks here on Hive that signed up for Initiative Q. I think I even recruited some of them with my referral link. Sorry about that @slobberchops...

Alright, I think I have dragged this out long enough.

Did you sign up for Initiative Q back in the day? Does this announcement shock you? Any other data mining projects you can remember signing up for back in the day?

These days if I see a project or an NFT launch where they want me to share my email and social media handles, I usually just skip it. I personally think crypto has moved past that stage.

I'm hoping these will die out eventually. A shit ton of data mining is going on in crypto right now and people keep using personal emails and data to join giveaways that are actually raffles that probably won't pay anyone anything.

End results usually are the same as with this Q thing you mentioned. At a certain point, they all need to acknowledge that they have no clue what they are doing and stop the whole thing before someone sues their ass.

Haha, yeah. It is pretty bad isn't it! I actually created a second (fourth actually) email account back in the day to use specifically for things like this. It has become almost as much a main account as my main account. It's ridiculous.

There is a chrome extension called TempMail that I use for a very long time now. It can be very helpful when you want to test these things out.

Sadly it wont happen. As I mentioned there were a lot of bs projects during the dotcom era tied to the internet.

Now, more than 20 years later, there are still a lot of bs projects tied to the internet. Granted the massive funding stopped but the scams still exist.

Hence I think it will be a while on this one. People simply need to get smarter and find those projects where the core team does know what they are doing.

I was thinking about some of the old projects that people were excited about back in 2017/2018 when many of us were crypto noobs.

For me it was Steemit then Dtube.

If I went all in with Splinterlands instead of Dtube, It would have been a different story now.

Haha, oh yeah, tell me about it. I bet a lot of people are feeling the same way about that hunt one too. It did okay for a bit, but then it was just nothing. You are still here though, and that is what counts!

There were may of them, you are right. We are still seeing them today. It does remind me of the dotcom era when people were getting massive funding for simply stating "we are going to make an app". VC companies had no idea what that was but they threw millions at it.

We need to stick with those projects that do know what they are doing. That is why my dedication to Hive has not failed me. There are a lot of people who are clear about what they are building. They are also dedicated to achieving their end.

Yeah, Hive is definitely one of the winners. They didn't really go that route that the other ones did though. They just created a good product and they keep improving it.

I didn't sign up for that but yea that doesn't bode well for the project. I prefer a clear plan moving forward and I wonder if there was sufficient information on the road map when people signed up.

They had a road map. It seemed fairly well planned out without being too aggressive at the time. They did eventually develop a mobile app, but things seem to have stagnated now.

"well just don't post then"

I don't agree on this one. Hive doesn't have to be just a blogging platform.

Did you sign up for Initiative Q back in the day?

Nope. I also believe such projects have their days numbered.

Hahaha, that sucks! I still have some byteball kicking around somewhere. That was a big one among Hive people back then.

Haha, I was lucky enough not to have gone in on Byteball. There was some serious shite floating around back then, which makes one ask the question, how much of the stuff floating around the Cryptosphere today is also shite that people will look back on ruefully.

I guess it goes without saying, that statement is true… “Not all that glitters is gold.” Sometimes that is true when talking about our posts as well. Fortunately for you that is not the case today, regardless of the filler or what you perceive as filler. It was an enjoyable post none the less!
