Do They Hate Crypto?

Back in the days when mobile phones were a new thing, Finland was one of the leading countries in the field of new technology. Nokia was the leading brand before the time of iPhones and touchscreens.

At some point before the new millennium, one Finish politician made quite a stir by declaring that in her opinion unemployed people shouldn't be allowed to own a mobile phone(yes, really!). Her argument was that it's too costly for the welfare system while the general opinion was that the idea of all of us owning a mobile phone just annoyed her.

Before everyone stared at the small screen it was more of a status symbol. It was to show that you were wealthy. Common people couldn't afford a mobile phone, so you were sending a message by walking down the street and talking to your phone. Like people do with expensive watches or clothes.

The fear of change

Think about the old geezers in their ivory towers. It seems that they are also deeply annoyed that someone steps into the game they have been playing for so long. We get to read comments made by warrenbuffetts that there's no way they would ever touch Bitcoin. Comments so harsh that if they were losing something profound.

I bet in some circles the crypto millionaires are still looked down by the "old money", by the ones who made their fortune with regular stock markets. Maybe these new players are invited to the exclusive clubs to smoke a cigar or two with them. But once the newcomers leave the room, the subject is changed. These kids are playing the game the wrong way. They are not playing it the old way. In my opinion, the wealthy people are more afraid of the change while the common people are just afraid of the unknown.

Manic Street Preachers

No, I'm not talking about one of the most underrated bands in history. I'm talking about the mainstream media. Every time some summer trainee is told to write an article about Bitcoin using mostly copy/paste, it has this negative perspective with a hint of danger to it.

With those "The end is near" -signs raised high, the mainstream media surely does enjoy the volatility. They don't hate crypto. They just spread the fear, uncertainty, and doubt to get those precious clicks for their articles. They are not telling us about the new applications or solutions. No, that wouldn't sell. Fear would.

Just like that Finnish politician, the mainstream media is unable to see the next technological breakthrough since their motive is to sell FUD.

Gamers

You would think that the gamers who might be somewhat familiar with new technology would gladly embrace the blockchain, right? Right?

I have a friend who is a die-hard gamer. He's been like that since 8-bit Nintendo and Amiga. I always try to raise a conversation with him saying, would it be great to actually earn while doing something you love? His point is always the same, yes, it would be a good thing with maybe some games but definitely not with most of the franchises. It would ruin the true gaming experience. Say what?

It's crazy to think that for some people crypto is such a boogie man that they'd turn down free money. I would be highly motivated and entertained if already a great game would reward me for playing more. Sometimes it feels like someone is putting words into the gamer's mouths. Again, people do it like it's supposed to be done. Like it's always done before.

And these guys...

There's this sports bar where I hang out once in a while. I know most of the regular folks there and with couple of them I've talked about crypto. However, for them it's not crypto, it's not blockchain, it's just Bitcoin. No one ever wants to talk about the technology behind it. But whenever the price of Bitcoin is pumping they say to me that they are interested in investing but as usual it is left with that.

Now when BTC is down there's a whole different attitude. This bar has large windows and it's easy to see who is inside. One day I saw this guy walking by and when he saw me he turned and decided to come in with a big smile. He ordered a beer, sat in front of me, and asked how is Bitcoin doing. Still smiling. The annoying bastard was actually smiling.

These guys were once told by the mainstream media, who were told by an old man sitting on a chest full of old money, that Bitcoin was destined to fail. For these guys it's so much easier to quote someone known, someone in power, than to dig deeper into the unknown that they are afraid of.

It really puzzles me how much ignorance and even hate there is toward crypto.
Is it the fear of the unknown? Fear of change? Or is it just wanting to hold on to the old ways? What do you think?

Thank you for reading!

hmmm...so loely narration, like a novel almost!!

I don't know much about the naysayers, although I was one, quite a while back, not naysayers but someone looking to which side of the fence to jump.

And fate, had it, I choose the world of crypto so, I am alienated with old money guys, not that I am much for them...

They will sicken me to death... my Indian country has been a crypto hating one, thanks to Govt. , but I have left that world and it does not matter to me... The main bank says - we are right in not regulating crypto because crypto is backed by nothing, and its creating financial instability!!

Ok..Ok ..OK... and I am not using the India CEXs atall, no not stepping there for fear of survelance, coz we are black targets for the Govt, ruin our lives...

Life changes, when you are deep crypto believer, and your chosen your side... that's my truth...

anyway... people hate crypto coz it theathens the status quo of banks, of the supremacy of their countries fiat currency controled by Govt.

People are like zoombies wanting to be slaves for ever...meserable, is it not???

Thank you!
I read about India's strict regulations, what a shame.

Life changes, when you are deep crypto believer, and your chosen your side... that's my truth...

I guess I'm a believer too! Without any regrets.

People are like zoombies wanting to be slaves for ever...meserable, is it not???

I hear you. In a spinning wheel, hard to get out.

I can imagine how difficult it is for Warren Buffett to understand crypto. I myself have a hard time getting into it. And what you can't feel is dust to him. 🤣

Exactly! That's the mindset of those people. Warren is old school and believing in his method, be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful. And absolutely nothing wrong with that! He should buying the dip right now. If these old folks don't understand something, it must be corrupt or evil.

Great article. I think there is a huge resistance to change. I thought Finland was quite advanced with cashless and automated systems so a switch to crypto should come easy!?

Thanks!
I think the technology is there but it's the attitude of people in high positions towards crypto and towards something new. There's this huge respect for authorities and when some public figure from the corporate world says a negative thing about crypto that is considered almost a law.

Yeah man, I totally get you on these points!

I've brought up crypto countless times to various people, and it's like it just goes over their heads.

For some, I think it's the fear of the unknown combined with an unwillingness to learn. As an example, when I tell someone about Hive keys, their eyes go as wide as saucers. That already scares them, haha.

Anyway, I think your gaming friend might just be using the spoiling the game thing as an excuse due to a fear of sorts.

Yes! You know what I'm talking about!
It's so strange that people find setting up Metamask or Hive Keychain so intimidating yet they keep creating accounts on Web2 cos "they have to".

Anyway, I think your gaming friend might just be using the spoiling the game thing as an excuse due to a fear of sorts.

I've been thinking about the same, excuses, excuses...

Trying to accept a currency that has nothing backing it other than popularity is very hard for many to accept. I was very reluctant until I could start with a $0 investment.

To me, this has been the weirdest part. Everyone can actually start from 0$. I made 2k by simple writing stuff and with zero initial investment. But some of my friends still believe that there is a catch.

That is quite an overview ... it would have read well in any century, in any language, when the culture is contemplating major technological change, and people cannot see how they fit into the future ... or, they KNOW their comfortable bigotries and prejudices and pretenses at superiority cannot go with them into that future.

Exactly, I think there has been opposition towards radio and then tv. Some people even thought that color tv was nice but it would never overthrow black and white tv.

This is a very intelligent way to highlight the type of resistance people have towards Crypto.

It's funny how most of them haven't tried to learn a thing or two about it. All they look forward to is a certain downward trend in Crypto market so that they can spread their fear about CryptoCrash. Haha.

Well, it is what it is. Thanks for sharing this on DreemPort.

I noticed the citation you gave for the image from Canva. You can read this to find a better way to do it.

Thank you!
Some people's negativity toward everything new never ceases to amaze me.
Clicked that link, thanks for the tip! That's exactly how it's supposed be done. I'll definitely do that with the future posts!

Thing about the Crypto is that,at some point, some people fear for the unknown, and the reason is because, they do not really understand how Crypto works, as they do not know what they are into, so it now become a problem to them, since their knowledge are at minimal.

I don't think they hate crypto, I think they hate how powerless it makes them. These people like to be in control of money flows and crypto takes that power from them. Crypto gives everyone equal opportunity to make money and not be at their mercy and that's what they hate. The change, the new world and the new form.

I have a similar experience with friends that I speak with about crypto and Hive...most are really interested but I don't think any have followed up on the initial interest yet....months go by... we all get together again...same conversations on repeat. I think you are right... its interesting to them but the FUD resulting from volatility just prevents them from taking the next step. !PIZZA !ALIVE

Yes! Same thing with my friends. They know about the volatility but when they see it in action, it scares them away. When people jump, they do it during the bull run thinking it'll last forever, and are disappointed when it ends.

Thing is if you are looking for a fast buck in crypto, you either have to be a whale or extremely lucky with your timing.
