Spinterland's Rent-A-Deck Project - Day 3 - Let's Go Shopping!

This is the post #3 on my new Splinterlands Rent-A-Deck Project.

The goal of this project is to see how strong of a Spinterlands deck I can build just from the earnings on posting about this project and playing the game.

Earnings Update

Day 2's earnings were down a bit but still enough to let me make some rentals.

Time to Go Shopping

So armed with a bit over $4 in earnings from the first two posts I was excited to start renting some cards and start improving my deck.

I guesstimated that I would likely max out in the Gold tier so I targeted cards that would be at or above the max levels for that tier (8 common, 6 rare, 5 epic, and 3 legendary). I also decided I would go for 30 day rentals because many of the cards have escrow and spreading that out over more days makes sense.

So I started by adding some summoners which are in general some of the more expensive cards to rent.

I snagged a 10th level Delwin Dragonscale right off the bat.

I had seen he was supper cheap before I got started, and knowing I was going to try to make a magic heavy deck he seemed like an obvious choice. At $0.01 per day I felt he was a bargain. He also added a lot of bang for the buck adding over 13000 power. As a dragon summoner he will be able to be used with any Splinter and will give me the chance to use some of the powerful dragon monsters.

Next I snagged a 7th level Alric Stormbringer and a 6th level Tyrus Paladium to power up my fire and life splinters.

I will need to get at least two more summoners (Fire and Earth) but I decided start getting some monsters.

I decided to focus on neutral monsters at first so that I will be able to use them in most quests so they are very versatile.

For my tank I went with the Goblin Mech, and snagged a level 10 for 0.01 per day rental fee. A penny a day? Nice.

I then added a couple of neutral magic monsters (again because I'm going to focus on a heavy magic attack).

Since most times when I'm going heavy magic I'm going to be playing water, I decided to pick up a level 10 Sea Genie.

image.png

Having loaded up on magic, I switched to some melee monsters which will beef up my Fire deck. I got a Level 6 Tyrus Paladium who will give me a +1 on melee damage. He also has a punch too with a sniper range attack.

image.png

To wrap up my shopping by picking up a level 6 Horny toad. He won't have much health but I like his poison ability. As a neutral I will be able to use him a lot too. He will be deadly in a sneak quest.

Stats

So not surprisingly, the addtional of all those nice cards pushed me power way up. I started a spreadsheet to track the rentals and the power they added. I also added the costs and expiration dates for cards so I will know when I will need to re-up my rentals.

image.png

At the beginning of the project, I was stuck at bronze level I. By adding these cards I have now reached the Silver level 1, and need 29,000 more power to reach Gold III.

My rating is already high enough for Gold III, I just need the up-votes.

Hey @onealfa - One Double Boom could put me in the pros!

Rewards

As was the plan, my end of season rewards have increased as have my daily quest rewards quite a bit . I went from 9 chests per season to 18 (likely 22). My daily quest rewards have increase from 1 per day to 4 and soon 5.

Yesterday I was lucky and had three cards for rewards. And I earned nearly 200 DEC more than normal without really playing that much.

Profitability

It is too early to say just how profitable this project will be, but a rough calculation makes it appear that just my extra playing DEC earnings are enough to pay for the rent of the cards far so any all extra quest and end of season rewards would be profit.

It seems like the chests may be better at the higher levels too. I'm sure it is well documented somewhere, so leave me a comment if you know if it has been confirmed that the chests are or aren't better at higher levels.

What Is Next

I still need to grab at least two more summoners as I want to make sure to make sure I don't get stuck in a Quest I can't complete . One is going to be Malric Inferno (I already have a Level 3 of him, so I may hold off on renting a higher level one) and the other will be either Earth or Death. I don't like playing Death much, so chances are it will be Earth.

Then I will need to buy some more monsters to round out the deck and then we will see where it goes. As you can see, I started hedging my bet a bit and think I might get in to Diamond, so I've been snagging max level cards when the price isn't much different.

Are You Playing?

Are you playing Splinterlands? If so, drop me a note with some ideas on what cards I should be looking to get. If not, consider signing up using my referral code - https://splinterlands.com?ref=nexus08

It looks like everything is going fairly well. Do you use up enough of your energy capture rate or do you just do the daily quest everyday?

I had just been doing quests because my DEC earnings were so low. But if they are going to be 3-4 times higher, I will probably work to use it more and use it more efficiently.

Wow. That's was a great find! Can't believe how well you're doing after only days. 😊

I know! It is exciting! I will probably get to a point my skill is what is holding me back, but so far I'm winning at a better rate too. Will be interesting to see where this goes in a few weeks.

Looks like you are going for magic... Gotta get ruler of the seas and spirit miner. Also a lvl 8 gelatinous cube is great for poison/flying/earthquake rulesets.

As a full-time renter(I sustained my renting cost without putting more money since last August and I am currently at $0.51/day; you can read my long time entries there on how I rent), my personal advice is that you don't need that high of a level per card to start. You can cut your renting budget in half or more just by renting the 5/4/3/2 to hit the silver cap or even just go for the gold cap as you are expected to go that high anyway.

A lot of the silver cap cards have 0.000 escrow(or at most 0.005) so you can remove them for free before your rental period ends and they are much cheaper than the level 10 or whatever high level you are renting right now. This gives you much lower rental cost per day at the lower level where the extra levels don't do anything.

After you hit gold, you can then cut all these cards out and swap them for gold rank level cards. This step-by-step upgrade will save you a crap ton of rental fee on the long run. The down side is extra work to swap them out as you have to do it card-by-card.
