Faith is to have the certainty of what is expected, but not seen. Talking about faith and at the same time religion is a very delicate subject because many times it can hurt your susceptibilities, however, this post is my weekly participation in the @humanitas community, where every week we are invited to philosophize about some important topic. This time it was the turn of Religion.

I want to begin by explaining what religion means to me, it is a system of beliefs, customs and symbols established around an idea of divinity or the sacred. It is a doctrine that strongly links the human being with God. Believing in a God that cannot be seen, but one has the conviction that he exists and is the almighty capable of giving us everything we ask for with faith. That is what my parents and grandparents taught me at home.

For some time now I have understood that we bring with us an endless amount of information before we are born, as they were inherited from our ancestors, which leads us to behave in this or that way. Being a social tool to manage our behavior as well as justice, I think it is very subjective. I believe in God, I belong to the Catholic religion, I was baptized and confirmed, I made my first communion, I go to mass from time to time. I attend the religious festivals and processions that are celebrated in my town. However, there are many things that do not fit me, and therefore do not seem to me, and I will explain why.

When my dad passed away about four years ago, we sent him to a funeral, we were first in the community mass, and once it was over, the funeral began, and we were the relatives of the deceased. My two sisters, my older brother, two sisters-in-law, four nephews, my sister-in-law's aunt and me.

At the time of communion, the priest said that in order to receive communion we had to be baptized, married in church, confessed and have gone to mass religiously every Sunday, otherwise we could not receive communion. We were honest and foolish at the same time, we did not stop, nobody moved because we understood that all those requirements had to be fulfilled. Being such a small group in such a large space it was obvious that no one would move, and consequently the priest did not take out the host, eliminating that detail of the mass, that important moment of communion with the Almighty.

After the return mass was over, we began to question each other. Some said I am married in the church, only I am a widow and I don't come to mass every Sunday. Others said that we should have stopped, because he had no way of knowing, and so on, everyone said something. Here comes my discomfort, if God exists and is available to everyone, why so much protocol to give you a divine representation of God's body?

Why does the church have so many requirements to serve you well in the house of God? I think that in this type of situation, people stop believing and simply walk away and leave these spaces. Just as in the justice system, the representatives of the same take attributions that do not correspond to them. They assume, they judge, they point out leaving aside the service for which they were designated, leaving aside humanity and the human being without receiving the service for which they were prepared.

On the other hand, there are the fanatics of office, those who believe that because they are in church day and night, they are free of sin, and are better people than those who do not go to mass and do not pray. In general terms, I do believe in religions, I respect those that are different from mine. I like to listen to and learn about other religions and their cultures. But I do not endorse any form of modern slavery through religious prohibitions.

I think that the human being needs to believe in something, in a supreme, invisible, wonderful, all-powerful being that helps him to get out of his existential crises, that is the work of religion to help us in the process of spiritual evolution through some deity, however; I also think that if God is everywhere, I should not be singled out or judged if I go to mass.

Quiero comenzar explicando lo que significa para mí la religión, es un sistema de creencias, costumbres y símbolos establecidos en torno a una idea de la divinidad o lo sagrado. Es una doctrina que liga fuertemente al ser humano con Dios. Creyendo en un Dios que no se ve, pero se tiene la convicción de que existe y es el todopoderoso capaz de darnos todo lo que le pidamos con fe. Eso fue lo que me enseñaron en mi casa, mis padres y abuelos.

Desde hace un tiempo para acá he comprendido que traemos con nosotros un sin fin de información antes de nacer, ya que fueron heredadas de nuestros ancestros, lo que nos lleva a comportarnos de tal o cual manera. La religión tiene su nacimiento también en ese conjunto de información que nos enseñaron desde muy pequeños, es por ello que creemos o no en ella.

Al ser una herramienta social para manejar nuestro comportamiento al igual que la justicia, pienso que es muy subjetiva. Yo creo en Dios, pertenezco a la religión católica, fui bautizada y confirmada, hice la primera comunión, voy a misa de vez en cuando. Asisto a las fiestas religiosas y procesiones que se celebran en mi pueblo. Sin embargo, hay muchas cosas que no me cuadran, y por lo tanto no me parecen, y les explico el porque.

Cuando mi papá cumplió como cuatro años de fallecido, le mandamos a hacer un funeral, estuvimos primero en la misa comunitaria, una vez finalizada ésta , comenzó el funeral, a lo que nos quedamos los familiares del difunto. Mis dos hermanas, mi hermano mayor, dos cuñadas, cuatro sobrinos, la tía de mi cuñada y yo.

Al momento de la comunión, el padre dice que para poder comulgar teníamos que estar bautizados, casados por la iglesia, confesados y haber ido a misa religiosamente todos los domingos, sino era así, no podíamos tomar la hostía. Nosotros de honestos y tontos a la vez, no nos paramos, nadie se movió porque entendimos que todos esos requisitos tenían que estar cumplidos. Al ser un grupo tan pequeño en un espacio tan amplio era obvio que nadie se moviera, y en consecuencia el padre no sacó la hostia, eliminando ese detalle de la misa, ese momento importante de la comunión con el todopoderoso.

Luego que terminó la misa de regreso, comenzamos a cuestionarnos entre nosotros mismos. Unos dijeron yo estoy casada por la iglesia, solo que soy viuda y no vengo a misa todos los domingos. Otros manifestaban que debimos habernos parado, porque él no tenía manera de saberlo y así sucesivamente, cada quien dijo algo. Aquí viene mi incomodidad, si Dios existe y está al alcance de todos porque tanto protocolo para regalarte una representación divina del cuerpo de Dios.

¿Por qué la iglesia tiene tantos requisitos para atenderte bien en la casa de Dios? Ante este tipo de situaciones pienso yo, que la gente deja de creer y simplemente se aleja y abandona estos espacios. Al igual que en la justicia los representantes de las mismas se toman atribuciones que no les corresponden. Asumen, juzgan, señalan dejando de lado el servicio para el cual fueron designado, dejando de lado la humanidad y al humano sin recibir el servicio para el cual ellos se prepararon.

Por otro lado, están los fanáticos de oficio, los que se creen que por estar metidos en la iglesia de día y de noche, están libres de pecado, y son mejores personas que el no va a misa y no reza. En líneas generales, yo sí creo en las religiones, respetos las diferentes a las mías. Me gusta escuchar y conocer otras religiones y sus culturas. Pero no avalo ningún modo de esclavitud moderna a través de las prohibiciones religiosas.

Pienso que el ser humano necesita creer en algo, en un ser supremo, invisible, maravilloso, todopoderoso que lo ayude a salir de sus crisis existenciales, ese es el trabajo de la religión ayudarnos en el proceso de la evolución espiritual a través de alguna deidad, sin embargo; pienso también que si Dios está en todos lados, no debo ser señalada ni juzgada sino voy a misa.

Para culminar, más que cualquier religión el poder está dentro de nosotros mismos, tenemos el poder de cambiar nuestra realidad, si cambiamos la manera de comprender el mundo, porque el mundo en que nosotros nacimos ya no existe.
