Blockstream Jade - The Cheapest Bitcoin Hardware Wallet
Part of getting into bitcoin is taking custody of your funds, if you have any meaningful amount of funds, you should consider getting a hardware wallet. I know some people think they can get away with hot wallets on their computer or phone and that's just bad opsec, you're leaving a trail to your funds and should be generating keys offline.
It may seem like an expense you don't want to make, but it's well worth it if you want to protect against breaches or your own mistakes.
If you're looking to store your bitcoin in cold storage but you're thinkng hardware wallets are way too pricey then you may want to look at Blockstream's Jade wallet.
This is a bitcoin-only hardware wallet, so no other chains are supported but it also has Liquid network support so you can store other Liquid assets like:
- L-BTC
- L-USDT
- L-CAD
If you so choose, but I hardly think anyone would want to store stable coins in a hardware wallet lol, but to each their own.
Key Features of Jade Hardware Wallet
Advanced Liquid asset support
Full-color screen with QR code support
Rate-limited, server-enforced PIN protection
More features will be enabled in the future through software updates, including:
Camera for fully air-gapped transactions
Hardware Wallet Interface (HWI) wallet support for compatibility with Bitcoin Core
Independent PIN server support
The Jade wallet retails for $ 45.99 + shipping.
I picked up one for myself, because I use the Liquid network regularly and with Core Lightning integration coming on Liquid I think it will be the ideal wallet for me.
I have not been happy with ledgers support as they spread themselves so thin trying to support every coin under the sun instead of improving their security and web services.
The Jade wallet can be used with multiple hot wallet interfaces so you're not held by ledger in a closed environment.
Get an extra 10% off
If you choose to pay in L-USDT which is Tether minted on the Liquid Network you can pick up a 10% discount. To acquire some L-USDT or rather pay the invoice using BTC pay server you can initiate the payment invoice on the site after you put in your shipping details
Once you have the liquid network invoice address, head over to shift.ai and select the swap service you prefer
Stable coin support is also available such as:
- BUSD
- USDT (ETH, AVX, BSC)
You could use your HBD using the @v4v app found here and swap HBD for BTC on Lightning and then use the LN to LUSDT swap to pay the invoice.

This is something I have to think of myself in the future.
I have heard how people lost most of their funds due to security issues. The Jade wallet will be a good asset to purchase, a little soldier to guard your money. Lol

It's important if you have any reasonable amount of money in bitcoin then it need you to have an air-gapped wallet so you can store your value off the internet
Thank you for the review, one day, when the question arises of purchasing a device, I will remember this.

If you have 10x more value in bitcoin than the cost of a hardware wallet, then it's time to get a hardware wallet
So I should have done this a long time ago)

Dear @chekohler, Thank you for your advice! By the way, What are stable coins? 😅
stablecoins are tokens that are pegged to a fiat currency value like USDT = is equal to 1 USD
A hardware wallet is a great idea. Secure that crypto because when it's stolen it is gone forever, better safe than sorry.
Exactly and if you’re going to skimp on $50 for your safety but you holding hundreds or thousands in digital assets and lose it you only have yourself to blame
That is very true. We are all adults, ever talk to that person that blames everything and everyone for their misfortune? Save $50 to lose thousands 👍
