Wrapping Twitter In A Bitcoin Experience

The idea of blockchain social media is nothing new, it's been punted since 2016 and has failed to get any real traction. The idea of adding a payments layer on social media makes complete sense, I still think it will be part of the ecosystem, I just don't see it as a stand-alone feature but an interoperable layer that plugs into social media.

The same way we see Gmail being the "data wallet" for people to sign into various social accounts with very little friction, I can see Lightning with LN auth being the payments method and authentication standard of the future. A lightning wallet is pretty easy to stand up be that a custodial wallet, non-custodial or fully non-custodial with a node, so depending on your temperament you can tap into it and then use that as your basis.

As these lightning standards begin to gain traction and integration into various apps as a standard we'll see more apps plugging into the bitcoin network.

You can't break network effects

You see the network effects of traditional social media is not easy to break, its why these companies can command the revenues they do and why they hold the market caps they do. Disrupting them is near impossible even with big bucks, we've seen man social media apps come up and try to eat the big boys lunch and fail, and we've seen 1900+ shitcoins try to eat bitcoins' lunch and fail.

So it only makes sense that eventually, the biggest networks will overlay one another. Twitter has become the un-offical home of bitcoiners and bitcoin Twitter is great fun once you get the hang of it, there's plenty of debate and tipping going on and you can get set up with a wallet pretty easily but even with Twitters native bitcoin tipping the experience isn't that streamlined.

Using Tweetoshi

Recently I started using Tweetoshi as my preferred front end for Twitter with its native bitcoin tipping it makes it a no-brainer to use on bitcoin Twitter.

I do think their wallet needs some work like adding lightning addresses and allowing for third-party connections like you see with alby but it's a solid start to the app and I've been enjoying getting my tweet on and collecting some sats for my troubles.

To use Tweetoshi all you need to do is download the app, and connect your Twitter and you're done. You'll have your same Twitter experience without a few features like spaces or polls but for the most part, you won't notice much of a difference.

The app is pretty slick and loads great and with its integrated lightning wallet, it's easy to get started funding it for low fees and tipping your mates.
