Onboarding New Users On Hive | My fears and decision

I have been having thoughts about bringing new users to hive. It's something that has clouded my mind now for a while and I have finally made a decision.

There were a lot of questions that came to my mind and most times these questions just went on to discourage me. Having new users aboard hive is a great thing. Hive is a wonderful platform that gives room for everyone, everything and anything. So surely holding it back from people close to me would be unfair.

But then, am I ready to carry up the responsibility of ensuring these new users have a smooth ride in hive?, Would I be able to encourage them well enough to be as active as possible?, Would they be able to add value to this platform?

These are some of the questions that kept me static. I had even thought of joining the onboarding program which @acidyo posted about but then I don't really know how it works. I am not pressured and surely the FOMO isn't the order of the day. I just want to share my experience of hive to others and take this gospel to another level.

It all started one day when I was so engrossed on my phone, laffing and clearly enjoying myself. My friends teased me that one girl was bursting my head with lines, I laughed and then something hit me, *why not use this opportunity to tell them about hive?*. So I went on tell them about hive, some seemed uninterested and others liked the whole idea, especially one who is actually a good writer, atleast that's what I think but she's not all that confident.

After that day, I didn't really mention it to again them because I wasn't sure I was ready to onboard people but to my surprise, that same girl (the writer) came back to me and was so eager about joining. Then we went on to try to create an account using the peakD frontend. To our disappointment, the account just refused to create, we kept trying but it didn't, then I went on to ask someone from Hive-naija and he told me that maybe the site was experiencing some technical issues that we should try it some other time.

We agreed to try it another time to see if it'll work, but then I became engrossed with exam and even forgot about it. Now I'm kinda disappointed at myself for not being able to keep my promise of adding her to hive so she'll experience the opportunities I have experience.

I love helping others as much as I can and every time I can't it saddens me. I believe there's strength in numbers and no knowledge shared is lost. There would be a lot of advantages adding these set of individuals to hive especially to the POB community, they're highly intelligent and well driven. You that saying "show me your friends and I'll show you who you are", we share a lot in common and I'd really like for them to be here.

So I made my decision and no matter what it takes, I'll onboard these new set of users and I'll go the extra mile to see that they have a smooth ride. @starstrings01 sir, I'll love to know if these new set of users can be part of your Newbies initiative so that they'll be exposed to how hive works. I'll surely do my best to share and educate them using the few knowledgeable I have and I'm continue encouraging them.

So before the end of this week, we've planned a meeting in which we'll all go through the process of creating their accounts and then I'll give them an orientation that'll will pave way for their Introduction posts and then they'll explore the various communities available. I'll also like to take suggestions of more Newbies initiatives that are ongoing in this community, I'd gladly love them to be part of it.

This is going to be the start of something big. I know they're various hive users in this part of Nigeria (uyo to be precise) but we've not been able to come together to build a community. I love the drive being shown in other states especially led by Starstrings01, and I'd love for us to follow that lead. We could start by creating a team of onboarders who would act as guiders to new users and together we'll work hand in hand to make beautiful things happen for hive.

I love hive, do you? 🥱

Thanks for reading this post ❤️

@dreemsteem used to do a lot to welcome new users but what your talking about sounds more like a mentorship...

Bottom is Hive will need to be super simple to register and easy and fun to use. In the meantime it's really people like you that make it happen !LUV

Yeahh, something of that magnitude. Mentorship is the word. Yes, she's been phenomenal in helping new users.

The hive is just a little complex, that's why we have to do the little we can to guide others.. people like us are following footsteps already set by people like you
