Water! Dug A Temporary Well So I Can Take a Bath

Yesterday was a disaster! As I am on my way home my stomach started to rumble. I am 5 mins away from our lovely abode when I received a message from my brother.

"Kuya wala tayong tubig", There's no water pouring in our hoses, both the bathroom and our laundry area.

Brother's message is the start of a very difficult day.

I arrived home and went straight to the toilet. I dumped my long-day baggage, you know what I mean, and prayed that we still have enough water from our reservoir can wash my bumbum.

To give everyone some context, for 28 years we have been getting our house water supply from a "sibol", a groundwater sprout. We dug a makeshift well to act as a water reservoir and attached some hoses going to our bathroom and laundry area/kitchen sink.

Since my father died last September, we haven't been able to check on our sibol because everything is working fine and I have tons of work to finish -- I have all the reason in the world to let our sibol be. Then last night was the point I was forced to visit our sibol, it is a matter of life and death. (Yes I take dumping in the bathroom really seriously)

Fast forward to today, after my Tuesday stream on splitnerlandsTV, I immediately checked the problem.

So the thing is, one of our hoses got stuck in a root system of a tibig tree, it is a species of fig tree native here in the Philippines. It grows in places with rich water reservoirs-- (I really love mother nature and how she sometimes plays with us). Not only that the tree is sucking some of our water but also it twisted our hose and pulled it from the ground.

With the situation at hand, I need to find a way to clear the surrounding of our water reservoir, dig a little deeper, fortify the well, clean the area, make a filter, and build a new cover. This will be a big project and will take so much time. So in the meantime, what I did was to make a mini well that can give us at least a bucket of water for my morning bath.

I noticed that there was water flowing from the reservoir it just happened that the water can't reach the hose. What I did is to dig a little well that can fit the hoses and let the water flow to them.

In desperation and hurry, I forgot to wear gloves (which I rarely do even) and dug until there is enough space for the hoses. I took out some rocks and roots to create a mini reservoir.

The hoses were secured with rocks to keep them in place. I place some rocks on the side of the hoses to center them and a huge weight to hold them.

I am happy that the water is pretty clear, it is naturally filtered with roots and minerals from our soil. Before, we even drink the water coming from this well. I believe that's the reason why we seldom get sick, because we are used to the natural threats of nature, and our immune system is muted by nature.

Well, that was one of my morning shenanigans, thank you for joining in being one with nature. I also got a souvenir from mother nature, she left me with a long scar and ruined fingers. I love you momma!

Lesson Learned:

  1. Have some time to check on the important things in the house.
  2. Always be prepared.
  3. Wear gloves.

PS

I asked the water supplier here in our city and they told me that it will take 20,000 pesos to connect a line to our house. In my current situation, I don't have enough to pay for that huge amount. So I will just do what I can do to improve our situation with the well and stay connected with mother nature.

All shots are from my phone. I don't have a professional camera but I am saving up some money to buy one. The cover is made with Canva.com

Glad you were able to find a solution to your issue. IMO, having a water line connection to your house will be worth the investment. Happy new month ahead!
