Angry looking stares pierced through her head and if looks could kill, she'll be far gone. Despite the stares, she was locked up in her own little world filled with more darkness and despair that couldn't be compared to the hatred others felt about her right now.

In her own little world, there were dark, almost red looking clouds rumbling and cracking with a raging thunder. The atmosphere was so tense and the only thing you could say would relieve that tension was the laughing and sneering of people pointing fingers at her but instead of relieving the tension, it brought more pressure and it was as if a thick wet cloak of burden was wrapped around her.

Her footsteps made clapping noises on the pavement due to her worn out shoes and she finally made it to her destination. Rows of gravestones lined up in rows and almost instantly, she tore up her coat because the anger and fear were just too much emotions to handle. The tension brought heat and she felt a panic attack coming up so she tore her jacket and the millions of buttons lined up immediately scattered into unknown destinations on the floor.

"Why me!"

She screamed into the dark night and it was as if the cold made a full blast on her, hitting her on the face and her lips

quivering. With the fear of the unknown and what was to come, she dragged her fragile self back to town with her knees clanking together due to loss of energy.

She continued down the path when she heard the screeching of tyres coming to a halt beside her. The tinted window rolled down and the fat man who was inside looked at her with the same look everyone in the small town looked at her. The look of anger.

"Just agree to be the priestess and relieve us of all this stress!"

The man spat out so bitterly.

"But it wasn't my choice to be chosen. I do not even want it. I want to live my normal life and be married with children."

The fat man looked at her like she just said the strangest thing in the world and almost immediately, he burst into a full scale of laughter. It was almost as if he was mad.

"Your life is already so miserable so why not serve the people, maybe you can derive joy from that."

The man advised with pity in his eyes and drove off immediately.

No one wants to be seen with her until she accepts their demands. No one cared about how she felt or if this was the life she wanted for herself.

With those heavy thoughts in her mind, she ran into a man who was walking with his dog. She gave him her usual crooked smile and forced greeting and the response she got was so frightening. The man replied to her greeting with so much glee and excitement. She was almost blinded by the intensity of his smile and wondered if his cheeks didn't hurt. It made her wonder and question herself if it was possible for a human to have this level of excitement in them.

"Hey you! Do you have any idea what the name on the plank hanging in that tree means?"

The man asked her with such sincerity in his voice. She looked to the direction he was pointing at and saw her name "Kara James" embroidered on the thin sheet hanging about the tree. She turned to look at the man and she wondered how she would tell him everything. She had always been the kind of person to keep her situations private and she intended to do the same in this situation.

She looked at him, smiled, and continued her journey. The graveyard was where the priestess was supposed to stay. It wasn't so bad when she was there minutes ago, she thought. She had no one to help her or go to so she decided to just go with what life had to offer her.

Maybe the people might not be all she needed but who says she's all they need to? It was better for her to relieve this burden and pain within her and be happy for once. The man she ran into taught her that. With all these thoughts going through her mind, she went to the chief head and accepted being the priestess.

That was the beginning of her journey to greatness. Who says one couldn't find happiness in a disaster? Well she did.

This is a fascinating tale of a woman resigned to an undesirable fate. However, without knowing what it means to her to become a priestess, it is hard for the reader to resonate with Kara.

The Ink Well has some great resources in our catalog of fiction writing tips. For example, we have tips on developing characters in your stories. You offer so many wonderful details about Kara in action, it would have been to nice to know just a smidge more about her circumstances as well.

We hope this feedback helps! Thank you for sharing your story with us, don't forget to engage with other members of the community as well!

Interesting story. You gripped me with words. Yeah, joy can be found in disaster if one is ready to endure and face it. It's a good thing the protagonist accepted being the priestess and found joy at last.
