The Use Of Slangs In Nigeria

Trust Nigerians and their ways of saying things. It's so great hearing some kind of words from them.

A man came for a company visit from abroad and was asking where he could have his money changed. He was holding the highest Nigeria currency. Since there was no way he could go out without having his money changed into units, he decided to go to a nearby shop to change his money. On getting there he met the unexpected. Someone came to the shop to also change his money and told the woman in the shop to piece his money. He did not stop there but said again that, if you cannot piers it, then help me to cut it into either two or four. The man who came for a visit was surprised to hear this word from the guy.

Without hesitation, the woman in the shop who was a newbie and does not know Nigerian terms brought out seizures and was trying to cut the money into pieces. Immediately the man said to the girl, what are you doing? Why do you want to cut the money into pieces?
The girl replied that :

It was what he said. He said I should help him cut the money into pieces and he did not stop there, he also said I should help him cut the money into four. So, I was trying to cut the money into four for him.

In another way, someone went to the nearby country to pay his brother a visit. When he got there, he went to a nearby shop to change money. Just like normal Nigerian slang, he told the shop keeper that:

Please, help me cut this money into pieces.

The shopkeeper was surprised and did not give him any answer. She thought maybe she did not hear him correctly.

The man repeated:

Can you please cut this money into pieces? If you are not having, then divide it into two.

This time the shop keeper was sure of her hearing. The guy only has that money left with just because of the place he was going to. The guy just turned his head to look at a scene and turned back and saw the unexpected. His money has been pieces and so he had nothing to say other than to accept his fate.

Let me talk about another one...

Newly bought item (s)

Nigerians truly have been blessed with so many kinds of words.

One day, my neighbor bought a car and was so happy with the car. He went out with it to meet up with one of his friends just to celebrate it and to take his friends out. They went out successfully to a bar. He bought them some drinks and roasted meat just to calm down the drink they had with them. He also bought some pepper soup for easy going of the drink they were drinking.

A woman came to the bear parlor to buy something else and saw my neighbor drinking with his friends. They both knew each other so well and she had heard from people that my neighbor has bought a car. She told my neighbor that:

Hmmm I heard that you have bought a car. Wow.... It means you have to wash it for me ooo...

This man had not heard about the word before and was confused.

I don't understand. Ok... Don't worry I will send the bar man to buy soup so that they will wash the car just right away.

The woman said to him that:

Not that kind of wishing. I mean you will celebrate it for me.

Hahahaha...

Hey, @cool08. You usually bring out humorous subjects but never do much with them, comedy-wise. You need to add more punchlines and jokes in the middle of your post instead of just writing 600 words post for essentially one punchline.

You have done that successfully here, great work.

I phrased it wrong. Just to be clear, I mean that you have done it the correct way in this post.

The ‘washing’ part got me. I am also guilty of using that slang a lot. I was bawling with pieces’ haha. Even I haven't heard that one before and I would have paused to look at a person if they told me that. Well done.

Lolz, I can relate to the slang thing. Almost everyone is guilty of using that funny and confusing slang in Nigeria.

You will be doing the wrong thing if you don't take your time to understand what the person meant.

😱😳 I love cultural differences. It is gratifying to know its variations and some curiosities like the ones I am reading here. However, let me stop for a moment, it is not only the way of speaking but also the willingness of people to act in accordance with what they ask even if they think it is crazy. I don't think I can cut off someone's money even if they ask me several times hahaha 😳.
