A visit to Bogotá

Bogotá view from Monserrate

A few days ago I was talking to a friend who was telling me that she might have to go to Bogotá and she was asking me how we had done when we had to go last year. She asked me which places to visit. So I thought I would tell her to go to my Hive blog and see everything I had posted about Bogotá. And then I thought it was a good idea, but even better, if I did a collection post with the Peakd feature for that purpose.

I got to know Bogotá in the late 90s, and I was pleased and surprised by how much the city has changed for the better, although the traffic is still chaotic. If you go there, you should be patient, and if you have an appointment, leave well in advance as traffic jams are common.

It is a city full of history and with many green areas to relax and rest from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The food is delicious and for all tastes.

The following posts are a summary of my experiences during my visit to Bogotá with my family in September 2022.

Visits, historic sites, and museums

Gold Museum, Bogotá

As I said, Bogotá is a city with many historical sites to visit. The huge Plaza de Bolivar, the historic neighborhood of La Candelaria. First-class museums like the Botero Museum. The Gold Museum, although I have not written about it in any of my posts, is one that you should not miss. If you visit the city, its collection of gold pieces from the pre-Columbian era is impressive.

And it is a must to climb the hill of Monserrate and enjoy the views of the city.

In the outskirts

If you have enough time, the trip to Zipaquira to visit the Salt Cathedral is worth it.

Parks for a nice walk

Bogota has lots of parks and green areas where you can walk and stroll. These are just the two I visited.

Eat and drink

Lechona.jpg

Lechona

If you go to Bogotá, you can't leave without having an Ajiaco, a soup made with potatoes, chicken, corn on the cob, cream of milk, and capers, among other ingredients.

And although I don't mention it in any of my posts, another thing I recommend you try is the Lechona. It is a suckling pig that is stuffed with rice and other ingredients and roasted until it is very toasted, and the pork meat falls apart easily. It is served with a piece of chicharron and a corn arepa. It is a dish from the Colombian region of Tolima, and places to eat it in Bogotá are not part of the tourist circuit. But if you have the chance, it is worth a try.

The food in Bogotá is delicious. And apart from Colombian food, the offer includes cuisines for all tastes and budgets. In the visits I reviewed in the first part, there are a few places where to eat or drink, including where to eat an Ajiaco. And here I leave our experiences in some others like the famous and iconic restaurant Andrés Carne de Res.

Others

The city is full of malls, but I didn't go shopping. However, I did enjoy the bookstores.

If I visit the city again or remember any other experience, I will add to this compilation.

Excellent idea. Makes me think I should do this with some of my posts. Would make them easier to search.

I tend to forget about them being so handy, but collections are great for sorting up the blog, and don't get lost searching for old posts. I have proposed to use them at least for travel destinations.
Happy weekend 🤗

I also forget about them. Now I'm getting a bit more time on my hands...

Happy weekend to you, too!

You have quite many trips to this place hehe. I feel like this city is too hot in summer.. Just seeing the dense place in the photo .

The weather there is more or less the same all year round because it does not have four seasons and the city is very high about 2600 meters. So it is usually cold all year round.

It was indeed a good idea. Go for collection that would be easy to find particular blogs.

Hehe, time changes everything other than it's history of that place.... Sounds like you had enjoyed your trip there and hopefully your friend will also do enjoy.

Thank you! It was a nice trip.
We had to go for some paperwork, but in the end, the trip turned out to be a good vacation as well.
Happy weekend!
